Microsoft Launches Tiered Xbox Live Rewards Program

Microsoft has begun sending out emails inviting gamers into the Xbox Live Rewards pilot program (via Gaming Target):

Quote:
The program will run for the next six months and will be run by a group known as the Xbox Live Rewards Squad. From the sound of the email, the program will work very similarly to the rewards programs available through many credit cards.

In the introductory email, Microsoft is giving 100 free Microsoft Points to those who made it into the pilot program. The program itself appears to be broken into three tiers, Project A, Project Y and Project X, each offering different rewards and each with its own section of Xbox.com.
I'm a lowly Project Aer, not an elite Project Xer

This seems like stuff that should be on offer anyway. I think everyone should get at least a $5 game for resubscribing to Gold with a $50/yearly subscription. . . especially if they've loyally kept being a member for an entire year.

Interesting idea to get people to spend more cash.

Also, I used to write for Gaming Target. Glad to see they're still in business.

Why the different tiers? Project A seems just about worthless, while Project Y & X seem worthwhile, and something that should've been pushed out the moment Sony's PSN became available without a subscription.

Again, just another example of MS starting out strong, but then getting lazy and now having to play catch up. Anyone with a brain could have seen that the 360 was going to start losing a LOT of steam compared to the PS3 once they both achieved price parity. Get your head back in the game, Microsoft--you can't cruise along counting on Sony's arrogant stupidity any more.

(That being said, I've yet to receive my email either.)

Group A is the control group. They'll measure the positive response from Y & X vs. the response from Group A.

In Project C, cool people will be awarded points for being cool, whereas in project L, the rest of us will get no points, because we are losers.

As long as Project X people get subjected to cosmic radiation and develop superhuman gameplaying abilities, all will be right with the world again.

I guess I'm Project Y. So what's so great? I get 100 points for filling out surveys once a month and 200 points for getting my yearly subscription. Is there something else that I'm missing?

Yeah, but it's not much... spend $50 and we'll give you a coupon back. Fill out a survey and we'll throw another coupon your way. There's a place down the street from me that pays between $25 and $75 to taste test some microwave popcorn or chicken nuggets over my lunch hour. Now that's a nice perk. A coupon sucks and I was under the impression or at least hoping that the Rewards Program would include stuff like free t-shirts or games or hats or downloads or something fun.
