Infinity Ward Responds To 100K Strong Modern Warfare 2 PC Petition
Edge Online has an ultra-short quote from Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, stating only that they are aware of the online petition to bring dedicated servers back to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Quote:
Bowling has reportedly issued the following response to the petition: "[It] definitely made a big wave, and the response will not be ignored. I'll ensure everyone at IW sees the petitions and responses to it.”
He also confirmed that there will be no delay to the PC version of Modern Warfare 2, which will launch alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions on November 10.
I believe this is the politically correct way of saying, "Yes, we see you. Now, Go Frack' Yourself."
Im kind of used to the game host running the multiplayer show after several years of Halo. Granted if I was a hardcore COD PC gamer who ran a server Id be livid so I can understand the anger however for me Im just grateful they are releasing the PC version same day. Ill take what I can get these days, we PC gamers should be getting used to the shaft by now and its only going to get worse (before it gets better?).
Aaaaaand....the petition got the big 'finger' most of us knew was coming.
Gamers are full of fail in stuff like this. If the Baptists couldn't drum up the spiritual angst to effectively boycott Disney, do you think gamers, drowning in lust for the latest and greatest game, can possibly resist?
This is going to go over just like the response to no LAN play in StarCraft went over. They don't care what the consumer says, they only care how they spend their money. The real petition should be all of the PC users keeping their money in their wallets until it goes their way. And looking at the status of the L4D2 boycott, I'm thinking even PC players can't even do that.

We're all lemmings.
Hey! I know I will use wait and see approuch on SC2, and I WON'T buy MW2. L4D2 is probably out of my list for sometime as well, but it has nothing to do with the silly boycott.

Alright, here's my story in brief. Who can relate this this:
-For years, the only way to get online with friends and play were PC games. Sure, it required some technical hoop-jumping - but hey, it was amazing and fun when it worked!
-A few years ago, we all migrated to the Xbox - thinking it would be a more consistent, problem-free means of social gaming. Unfortunately, the rate at which "parties" drop players when joining games, or the frequency of "unable to connect" errors, made the whole thing every bit as tedious as social PC gaming. On top of that, we learned about "peer to peer" lag. Those of us far geographically removed from our buddies ate a real fat one. Not fun.
-In the last few months, we're all back on PCs. We all even got the PC version of L4D - thinking that was obviously going to be an improvement. But the thing carries horrible console symptoms. Sure you can tell it to find you a dedicated server - I just wish it wasn't a blind man throwing a dart that chose which dedicated server you get. Net Result: L4D PC works only *mostly*.
So! Modern Warfare 2! Honestly, I don't care *how* they do it, but can anyone actually look at me with a strait face and tell me that it's going to work *well*?! I'll suck up steam, GFWL, just about anything to ensure their game isn't pirated - and I'll even pay for every stupid little map pack - but the game better goddamn *work*.
Thus far, in all my experience, peer to peer just doesn't work very well. Hell, any automated system that tries to guru out "the best available host" never seems to work well. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't think I will be.

Sadly, you just blew your whole post right there. They have never stated that MW2 will be peer to peer.
If not P2P, then what ? Oh well, love closed systems.

As long as I can find the same server I regularly play on that's administered by people I trust, who enforce the server rules that are in place consistently, where griefers can be removed by server admins quickly and without hassle I'll be happy.
I have no desire to play on public servers that aren't actively administered by the people who pay for them. I've got a couple of COD4 servers that I regularly play on that are well administered. I was hoping I'd see them having MW2 servers running, but I guess not.
I'd really really really like to see a video put out by IW that shows their PC Multiplayer game joining process. Does it show an ability to search for servers by map, ping, hardcore mode etc? Can I mark one of those servers I find as a favorite so I can play on it regularly?
That's the problem... the "servers not run by players" bit.
I understand everyone's concern about not being able to own their own servers however we still don't know if they will be leasing space/servers or if they will be taking it all over on their own.
But it seems, to me, obvious that it is not going to be a p2p system.
