An update to the official FAQ for APB: All Points Bulletin has word that the PC version of the game will be free to play and an update to another FAQ puts some doubt into the idea that the console version of Realtime Worlds shooter is still in development.
Quote:
How much will APB cost?
The actual price for the game itself is still under discussion but we’ll keep you up to date. We can confirm that APB will not require a monthly subscription.
Will there be console ports? Or a Linux or Mac client?
We’re evaluating opportunities for a console port of APB but there’s nothing concrete to announce at the moment. There will not be a Linux or Mac version of the game.
Free is good. If this wasn't free, I wasn't going to bother.
Please please god let this come out on the 360. It would make RW tons of money.

Free-to-play doesn't mean you don't buy the game in the first place. I think this means it's like TF2 - you buy it, then play it online for free.
Oh, and fuck consoles. PC-centered will hopefully mean a game with an interface not hampered by the need to cater to people who can only use a thumb and two fingers.

I don't know how you use a controller, but I use two thumbs, four fingers, my lips, nose and a foot.

Don't get me wrong - I like my console games, but I like console games made for consoles, and PC games made for PCs. When they start trying to please everyone they usually screw it up for one camp or another (probably the PC).
Since consoles get most of the loving now, I don't think I should feel bad for PCs getting a game or two.
You only think that way because you have not played it yet. When you play the finished version I'll bet your viewpoint changes significantly
First of all let's be clear that they didn't say it was going to be free. In fact it they specifically said that the actual price for the game itself is still under discussion. I've spent the past two days here in Dundee, Scotland playing an early build of APB and I can tell you it is absolutely SPECTACULAR! I would pay anything they want me to pay to continue playing this game! After the first day of playing it all I wanted to do was keep playing it and even now I find my mind wandering every few hours to the thought of playing it again. It really is that much fun. In my opinion they've built something very special here.

APB is a full-on PC game with the same controls you've come to love in other PC first person shooters and a great user interface (even at this early stage where that is still pretty roughed in). PC gamers are going to LOVE this game!
Sounds like the game isn't worth a monthly subscription.
I can tell you from personal experience (been in Scotland playing it for the past 2 days) that I'd happily pay huge monthly subscription for this game if they asked for one. It is just that amazing. AMAZING!

Can you tell I'm excited about APB?
Yes, very much so. I just hope the game world is more dynamic then say 100-player team deathmatch (not that there isn't anything wrong with that but I'm not much of an FPS person to start with).
If it's done on the PC it can be done on the 360. As a huge Crackdown fan and a Mac user I can say first and foremost that no console version is no buy for me.
The character creation looks awesome.. but i will have to wait and see about gameplay itself. But yea, the fact that it does not have a monthly fee greatly increases the chances of me purchasing it. Guild Wars is a good example that this can work.
Article title sucks. APB won't be FREE, the news is that it will not have a monthly subscription. We're still gonna pay to buy it on a store. Like Guild Wars.
