Last night, on GameTrailers TV, Bethesda debuted a teaser trailer for this new game that they are publishing called 'Brink'. It's being developed by Splash Damage and appears to be some sort of First Person Shooter, although there aren't any real details in this information-less, gameplay-less video.
Teaser's suck unless they reference enough information for us to get excited. For instance, the Halo teaser with Cortana flashes was great, Halo players knew the end of Halo 2 and the significance of hearing her. The teaser for MGS 4 back in the day with it being a sort of FPS until Snake kills the guy that we were following in FPS mode. . . awesome.
This teaser is only vague imagery and words that don't tell us anything exciting. Okay, it's a game about people in a desperate situation (perhaps on the brink of existence) trying to get on an Ark. That's an okay premise but without gameplay to show that this isn't Just-Another-Shooter (wouldn't expect that from Bethesda), we've just got a mediocre premise that never executes it's major themes. That eyeball looked like it has a fucked up nose and that the dude is old, but it doesn't look desperate. The imagery and music did nothing to make me worry about the fate of humanity or to create any interest in this product.
They're lucky that they are Bethesda and their games are worth my interest without shitty teasers because this was made of fail.
... That's an okay premise but without gameplay to show that this isn't Just-Another-Shooter (wouldn't expect that from Bethesda), ...
To tell you the truth, even if it was "Just-Another-Shooter," I'd probably love the hell out of it. It's from Bethesda, and they have yet to let me down in any way.
I'm intrigued.....
*does anyone else think the bone-structure around the guys eyes and nose area look like a different animal? Like a fusing of DNA?
