Far Cry 2 DLC on Steam, $4.99

Just a few days ago, we saw that Steam has started selling DLC for games, starting with The Maw. Now, a big game has joined in the "fun". Far Cry 2 "Fortunes Pack" is now available for download on Steam for the low price of $4.99.

Quote:
Three brand new weapons, which can be found in the armory:
  • Silenced Shotgun
  • Sawed-off shotgun
  • Crossbow
Two new vehicles, which can be found at various locations throughout the the game in place of cars or other vehicles:
  • Unimog (big truck)
  • Quad
Five new Multiplayer maps:
  • Cheap Labor
  • Last Resort
  • Lake Smear
  • Fort Fury
  • Jungle Seizure
All the new weapons and vehicles will be available in Single-player and Multiplayer modes.
... and it starts. The beginning of the end.

What you didn't like the walk 5 feet have a truck drive into you gameplay? I wonder if you can still buy the DLC if you dont own a steam copy of the game.

Far Cry 2 was probably one of the worst purchases I've made in the last few years. And they want to spend more money to play a poor game?

No thanks.

I didn't really like FarCry 2 either.

It had so much potential, but Ubi forgot to put more than two mission types (blow up the truck, kill the bad guy).

Reminds me of Assassin's Creed actually, great engine, great looking game, but the gameplay is extremely repetitive and linear (the game wants you to believe it's open-ended because of the map but the story/objectives are linear!).

Please make an actual game next time Ubi, not just an engine!

It was such a good looking game too. Sometimes I manage to convince myself it wasn't that bad, so I pop it in, think about how pretty the game looks, then promptly quit again when I realize how much time I'm about to spend driving just to get to a good gunfight.

I remember standing in the store trying to decide between this game or Dead Space. I think I chose...poorly.

I wasn't aware of this bug. Is it fixed now? It seems to affect other parts of the game too. I would be seriously pissed if I didn't have any other save game.

I guess I didn't play enough Far Cry 2 to get to the point where there are three types of missions:
  • Blow up the truck
  • Kill the bad guy
  • Free some guy from a locked structure which will magically unlock when you kill all the bad guys

...I actually really liked FarCry 2. It was a little slow starting... and a little slow finishing; but it did a ton of things amazingly well. You just had to actually THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.

Seriously, you can avoid 3/4 of all checkpoints if you think about it.

That said; this DLC is a complete fucking ripoff.

I wish it was. I found all the diamonds and tapes, and I think I managed to complete nearly all the side missions.. at this point, I cannot complete the game because this is a "main mission". Can't believe they would just let this shit go and not even bother to patch it.

The malaria pills missions task you with killing off everyone before the doors magically unlock.. but the buddy rescues do not require it. You can sneak in and break them out unnoticed if you want. I did that with a few of the others no problem.

I find it hilarious. "PC, man...extra content FOR FREEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Not for long, folks...and then, just like on consoles, it will be free only on titles that have DIED and need a boost.

Welcome to the new world of gaming.

I actually liked Far Cry 2 (as a matter of fact I just beat it tonight for 360). If my laptop was up to snuff I'd actually get this on steam.

I really don't get the hate on FC2 - it's not a terrible game by any means, and I've had much fun dart sniping random targets under the cover of darkness. And silenced shotty = Anton Chigurh.

I really like FC2. Sneaking around is fun, the gunplay is fun, the driving around finding stuff is fun. Of course, if you try yo play it like it's Doom1, it won't be fun.

Yeah I think I fall into the FC2 fan club. Sneaking was great as was the selection of weapons. There were so many ways to do a mission.

I think my favorite moment was in the mission where you track down that police chief in his car and assassinate him. I stuck an explosive charge on a bridge, waited for him to go across and blew his ass into the river.

Lack of vehicle variety bugged me though. I know this is meant to be a war-torn country and there won't have been many car dealerships around but I think that with thousands of cars roaming around Jeep might not hold such a strong market share. This DLC doesn't deal with that problem in an interesting way.

The multiplayer was always dead on the console versions. More popular on PC?

Toyota pick-up is what every real mercenary needs.

I don't know, man, the game has Land Rovers coming out of the ass. That's fine by me, Rovers are the best cars.

And I did that Police chief mission the Buddy way, it was really different. I had to steal a ledger from his brother, then the chief hid in the Police Station, then, after killing him, I had to help my buddy clear a weapons convoy.

People bitch too much.

See, that is why the game is great.

This dynamic can be demonstrated using Hitman/Kane and Lynch. Have all these cool ways to do missions and it rocks, however, were they to take them away then the game would suck.

Far Cry 2 is Hitman; it probably shouldn't be good but it is.
