Its just you. Game of the Year shouldn't necessarily be the game any one individual or segment enjoyed the most. No other game had more effort put into its development than GTA 4. It may not be your cup of tea, but in shear scope of accomplishments its in a class of its own. My personal pick would be Fallout 3, but I don't disagree with Spike's pick.
I'm really surprised that Spike got everything right with this years awards. Every pick is spot on except their Best PS3 game pick.
No matter who won, the audience lost. The whole show stunk...BAD. I've heard about these VGA shows before, and hoped that somehow it wouldn't be as bad this year. Wow. And you wonder why the media gives little respect to the video game industry.

Funny, as this was way better than last year's show. Jack Black stole the show with some truly funny bits. The rest seemed like an infomercial targeted at the usual Spike "demographic".
It got me excited for Brutal Legend, gave me a peek at Uncharted 2 and God of War 3, and introduce me to Dante's Inferno... named after my cat. So I was pleased.
Most confusing mess of a game maybe. I still don't understand how that game qualifies as an RPG and not some messed up rhythm game.
But...no. Just...no.
It's got a pretty steep learning curve, what with having to control two characters at once...but it's not that bad and certainly nothing like a rhythm game.

It can come off seeming like a rhythm game on the surface. That doesn't mean I enjoyed it, but I can see where he's coming from.
So, did a bunch of 14 year olds vote for the winners or how did they come up with these results? I mean, opinions are opinions, but GTA IV getting game of the year and Gears of War 2 getting shooter of the year... That, and LBP with PS3 game of the year. Guess marketing pays off sometimes.
Among the VGA's many sins, I've gotta go with "Best Game Based on a Movie or TV Show" as most offensive thing sticking in my craw at the moment.
What a shit category.
These are also shit:
# Big Name in the Game Female: Jenny McCarthy (C&C: Red Alert 3)
# Big Name in the Game Male: Kiefer Sutherland (CoD: World at War)
# Best Performance by a Human Female: Debbie Mae West (MGS4)
# Best Performance by a Human Male: Michael Hollick (GTA IV)
