Gray Matter Assimilated by Treyarch?

This news article over at Gamecloud suggests so:

Quote:
...While the Grey Matter web site is still operational it has not been updated for over a year and calls made to the listed Gray Matter office were greeted with a disconnected message. A listing on the freely editable Wikipedia encyclopedia web site states that Grey Matter has indeed merged with Treyarch...
Can anyone here throw some light on this?

Better than being assimilated by the evil entity known as EA. The lesser of two evils, if you will.

Wasn't the main guy at Treyarch behind orginal C&C and Dune 2 designs?

I also have to give them credit for Die by the Sword. That was one cool game.

Source - Reuters

Activision has announced that it has bought Gray Matter, the developer behind the single player side of Return To Castle Wolfenstein. Reports suggest that the game has already shifted at least half a million units worldwide since its December release, making it a solid hit by PC standards. The take-over deal sees the publisher excercising an option in its contract with Gray Matter to acquire control of the remaining 60% of the developer (they already owned the other 40%) in exchange for 133,690 Activison shares, worth about $3m at the moment. This comes in the wake of Activision's recent acquisition of another of its big third party developers, Treyarch, while the publisher also owns other popular studios such as Soldier of Fortune developers Raven. What Activision has in mind for Gray Matter isn't yet clear, although several key staff have apparently signed on to remain at the company under its new ownership.

Did you ever play Blade of Darkness, Die by the Sword's spritual successor? You couldnt actually control your sword, per se, but the gameplay was excellent. Lopping limbs off enemies and engaging in strategic sword fights was great fun. Check it out, if you can. Should be about 10 bucks or less by now.

No, I never did. But thanks for the tip, I'll definitely seek it out.

I doubt he made them by himself in his garage. In which case, he is only one of many people "behind" those projects. In any case, Treyarch is certainly not putting out games of that quality.

Activision's Gray Matter studio was assimilated by Activision's Treyarch studio about a year ago. At the same time the original Treyarch bosses (the one who started Treyarch, did Die by The Sword and had Dead Rush under development) were fired, the original projects (Dead Rush) cancelled, etc. Then Activision decided to merge Gray Matter into Treyarch, install a new boss from Activison and make games after existing IP only (Spiderman & COD)

COD2: Big Red One for XBox/PS2/Gamecube is the latest game by the remains of the Gray Matter team + Treyarch folks.
The game carries the Treyarch logo and Gray Matter doesn't exist anymore ...

What a travesty. I shall never eat Cheeto's and surf the web with my left hand while I fight injustice with my right hand on a Playstation again.

Never!
