Beatles Game Contains Only 45 Songs

Variety has an article online talking about the dealings behind the upcoming MTV/Harmonix Beatles music game, including the news that no more than 45 Beatles songs will be included in the game.

Quote:
Game developers will be able to select 45 songs from the Beatles catalog recorded during their 1962-69 tenure within EMI for inclusion in the game.

"The game is in development," said Apple Corps CEO Jeff Jones. "We don't want to talk about how it will turn out a year from now. We're in the process of creating the game."

Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono Lennon have been part of the conversations regarding the design, layout and rollout of the game. Discussions, both creative and financial, between Apple Corps and MTV began 17 months ago, and the first contracts were signed about four weeks ago. The game will not be part of the "Rock Band" franchise, which will release an AC/DC edition on Tuesday.
How many tracks are in the AC/DC game? I haven't heard a thing about that one due to the Walmart exclusivity.

To answer my own question... the AC/DC game contains only 18 tracks for $39.88 and none of them are master tracks, they were all taken from some Live tour. (Meh.)

Quote:
AC/DC LIVE replicates AC/DC's track list from their landmark gig at Donington:

"Thunderstruck"
"Shoot to Thrill"
"Back in Black"
"Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be"
"Heatseeker"
"Fire Your Guns"
"Jailbreak"
"The Jack"
"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
"Moneytalks"
"Hells Bells"
"High Voltage"
"Whole Lotta Rosie"
"You Shook Me All Night Long"
"T.N.T."
"Let There Be Rock"
"Highway To Hell"
"For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)"

It could be stacked full of win or full of FAIL and it just doesn't matter.
So long as I can't play these songs in Rock Band, it's flat-out irrelevant.
I'm not going to support going back to incompatible disc releases for any one Band.

Oh, they're making an entire game of Beatles Songs? Uh, I guess I'll pass...

Yea, kind of weird. The least they could do is let you import the songs into Rock Band or Rock Band 2 if you buy the game and you own both.

I don't believe this has been ruled out. There haven't been all that many details.

Well they are masters, they're just live masters. It's not like it isn't AC/DC playing.

It probably won't be 45 songs in game. I would guess 30 songs in game and 15 songs available as DLC.

And now that the Beatles are finally appearing in Harmonix games, we are one step closer to the Capcom vs. Beatles fighting game.

Chun Li vs. Mean Mr. Mustard is going to be awesome.

True, but it isn't really the classic AC/DC sound that I was looking for. It doesn't mean I'm not going to buy it. I'm just holding off because I don't have Rock Band 2 and I'm not sure if I'm getting it for the PS3 or 360 yet.

(Which might not make much sense... What I meant is that I haven't decided which platform I want to use for most of my music gaming.)

Just one question:

Will they force us to buy all new plastic instruments or let us use the ones we already have?

I'm guessing another batch of plastic embossed with the fad four's faces. Ugg!

Maybe it will be Elenore Rigby, plus 44 variations of "Yellow Submarine"! Once you get Yellow Submarine into your head, it just won't let go. Like fungus.

But I do like most Beatles songs, and I hope that this game is just part of them deciding to re-re-re-release those songs online. There was talk about remastered versions coming out, but hasn't that sort of died out?

It was stated in the press release yesterday that it would be compatible with the RB instruments.

I think they have to either cover or remaster any songs that appear in games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero to isolate the different insturment sounds.

Thanks Damned. That is great news. I read the link from this thread and not the other so I was unaware.

Waiting for 2009, not so great.
