SoulCalibur on XBLA This Week

Grab your swords and your scantily clad women, SoulCalibur is hitting the Xbox Live Arcade this week for a mere 800 MS Points ($10).

There isn't much detail on it, other than the classic Arcade and Dreamcast title will support online play and leaderboards. For $10 though...sign me up.

Quote:
Prepare for battle as the highest rated console fighter of all time, SOULCALIBUR, comes to XBLA this Wednesday. Play as one of 19 characters including Kilik, Ivy, Siegfried, Mitsurugi, Nightmare and more. The game has been fully remastered with high definition graphics and HDTV support.

Why did they make "SoulCalibur" one word?

And I'm quite willing to kick anyone's ass in SC

Awesome game at the time. but seeing as I'll be buying SC4 already, I'll pass on the nostalgia.

Food for thought, as IGN brought this up in their review:

Quote:
....The lack of Mission Mode is a major blow to SC's replayability.

To be fair, the blame doesn't fully rest on the publisher. When Namco Bandai began porting Soulcalibur, Microsoft had a strict 150mb limit. Online play, remade artwork to fit 16:9 and mission mode pushed the game well beyond those limits. By the time Microsoft removed those limitations, Soulcalibur was nearing release. The team managed to tack on all of the unlockables from Mission Mode, which are available from the moment you buy Soulcalibur. You won't have anything left to unlock after downloading, which is likely to make SC a short-lived experience for many.

Those who can look past the lack of online play and the absence of Mission Mode will still find one of the greatest fighting games ever made. That's no bad for $10.
Unless someone wants to verify it....

Wait, no Online play? What's the point of this if you already have a DC then?

So does the game actually have online play or not? The xbox.com page says yes and that IGN review says yes and no:

Maybe you don't want to have your DC taking up space under your TV.

Doesn't look like it has online play... it' not listed as a feature on the Xbox.com page and they only mention this in the description.

I guess. And between this and Vigilante 8 I may finally be able to sell my DC and the games.
