Vader No Longer Leashed

From the "Well duh, it's Marketing" dept, GameTrailers TV, hosted by Dreamy Geoff Keighley, has broke the news with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed project lead Haden Blackman that Darth Vader will be playable in game.

You'll get to control the universe's most emo Jedi at the beginning of the game when he goes on a search to find our protagonist, his new apprentice.

I know, I know. Not earth shattering, but the amount of nerd joy about this is palpable. It's as though a million basement dwelling Star Wars fans cried out in joy all at once, and nothing can silence them.

Yea that's definitely not that big of a deal. They already showed in the PSP/PS2/DS/Wii video that you get to play as Vader in the PSP version (I think) where you get to reenact the old movies.

I guess it's cool, but it's a tease, and I don't know how much different it will be than playing the normal guy.

Playing as Darth Vader was a great idea...when none of the games allowed you to.
Now that he's been demystified, meh.

Such as it is in all things.

Yeah, it's kind of like God of War II (if I remember right) and Chaos Legion or and other game where you start as a complete bad ass, then mysteriously lose all your powers and have to start from scratch. Although this time, not much of a mystery.

Don't forget MGS2 in that list. They're still mostly alike, but no gamer will ever forget the moment they realized they got to be the whiny emo, who looks way too much like a chick, for the rest of the game.

Even though Vader whined a lot in the prequels, he's still a total badass. All black suit, wears a cape, James Earl Jones voice, chokes people who cramp his style. What a fucking pimp. I can't wait to toss puny Jedi around with him.

This is just the game's way of disguising the Metroid/Castlevania mechanic of give you all the powers for the first little stretch only to take them away from you so you can collect them again.

I liked that. It reinforced the lack of true willpower he had as a person without the force. He relied on it too much once he became powerful. He was a pussy then he mastered the force and spent years trying to pay the worlds back for his little tiny life. Then his son beat him with a word.
Then he suddenly turned white and became a pussy again.
It will rock to play him. Just because I can't wait to see how many storm troopers I can get to create a human grab chain as each one displays the "amazing ai" known as grab shit.

Still super pissed about no PC version, having a DS version and no PC one is just rubbing it in.

I'll either rent this for a few days for the PS3 and beat it, or buy it used just to not give Lucasarts money directly. And where is a new Tie Fighter game?!? *shakes fist*

I read about this about two months ago. I had assumed it was confirmed then, but maybe I'm wrong. Either way, I give it a big old "meh". Playing as him in Soul Calibur 4 will be pretty sweet though.

Has it now become obligation for all Star Wars games to include a playable Vader?
