Xbox 360 UK Price Drop

Whether this precedes an official announcement remains up for debate, but Amazon UK is now selling all flavors of Xbox 360 for the following prices:

Xbox 360 Arcade - £149.99. Previous price - £199.99.

Xbox 360 'Pro' - £189.99. Previous price - £279.99.

Xbox 360 Elite - £249.99. Previous price £299.99.

Now all we need is a North American price drop.

Editor's Note: This looks to be official. It starts Friday though.

Holy crap! The premium gets nearly £100 off!

If only I had £200 to spare!

I'll stop using exclamation marks now!

That's a hefty price drop. Hope this really is a general price drop, not just Amazon.

Those are some pretty huge price drops, well done MS. This is what I think a lot of people have been waiting for. It'll be interesting to see what Ninty and Sony do to counter.

Oh and they also need to do this worldwide.

This basically brings UK XBox prices into parity with American prices - previously they were selling for about double the price.

UK taxes nearly always include sales tax already, so direct comparisons are difficult, but even so, there were massive differences. Someone was making a huge buck.

Impressive. Time for my second 360 to put in the gaming den.

I think this is a mistake because I just visited those links and the price has only dropped £10-20.

No, it's not. Check the previous prices in the OP. The $10-$20 difference is in the new RRP.

But the prices listed on Amazon aren't the ones shown in your post. Something change since you posted it?

Huh! Interesting... The prices have gone back up. Methinks Amazon jumped the gun somewhat.

Arcade: £190
Premium: £250
Elite: £279.

Pity.

I'm not so sure, play.com agrees with the revised prices:

The 360 needs a price cut across all regions. Drop the price everywhere and even it up worldwide with the value of the US dollar so it's cheap everywhere. then get that Blu-ray out there at a good price, dump the Arcade and get an entire new staff for 1-800-4MY-XBOX.

Perhaps Amazon changed its prices early, and MS got angry with them for "breaking" the news early?

It would also shoot other retailers in the foot.

Amazon is not alone though. In Sweden, one retailer has now lowered the price on the HDMI Premium with about 21 %, but it won't be in effect until the 14th.

This is why I'm happy there's competition. Sony and MS would never drop their prices as quickly or as often if there wasn't competition. Nintendo is on top (sort of) and they haven't dropped their price at all.
