IGN caught word in EA's conference call today that a Wii version of the popular Rock Band game is on its way.
Quote:
Riccitiello mentioned the game at the end of the call's question-and-answer session. There was no release date given, but Riccitiello referred to the "coming launch" of a Wii version of the game.
Knowing EA, it was inevitable, but it's still nice to have official confirmation.
I always love the phrasing developers use when talking about development costs rising, as if they are watching an astronomical event they have no influence over.
During Electronic Arts's financial conference call with analysts following the release of their latest financial numbers, company execs officially revealed plans for a Wii port of the Harmonix developed music game Rock Band. The game will be released in the first quarter of EA's fiscal 2009 year which begins on April 1, 2008. No other info on the port was revealed.

I'm assuming Rock Band will be compatible with the Wii Les Paul seeing how it's just a Wii-mote stuck in a guitar shell. If it's a port of the PS2 version that means no create-a-character and no Band World Tour. Ouch. C'mon Harmonix, there is some horsepower in that slim white case, don't jip the Wii owners too badly.

Well if they do the same thing like Activison did for Guitar Hero III I'm assuming we will have to own 4 Wiimote each one for each instrument....
Anyway since Harmonix released the PS2 version I was thinking the same dam thing, they better not screw that port in terms of features for the game, I can understand that they downgraded the graphics/details of the game and didn't offer some features for the PS2 because of lack of online but if they do that for the Wii version they will screw the game badly and piss of so many Wii owners looking forward to the game. The only thing I can deal with is downgraded graphics more than that, no thnx.

Yay! A game that costs about as much as the system it's being played on. In all seriousness though, it would be nice if Rock Band players on Wii could play with people on 360.
I'm willing to bet that this is just like the PS2 version and suck just as bad.

Hahahahahaha!!!
Nintendo won't even let people play together on THEIR OWN SYSTEM.

Wow, really? That's news to me. I'd better tell all those people playing Guitar Hero 3, Medal of Honor 2, Battalion Wars 2, Mario Strikers Charged, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl that they aren't supposed to be playing against each other online. I'm sure they'll be disappointed to hear that.

Considering the lack of storage space, I'd be pretty surprised if the Wii version also had all the downloadable songs that the PS3 and Xbox versions have.

And that's the dealbreaker, really. Rock Band is staying fresh because of its DLC.

Who the F&ck is playing brawl already? Isn't it - no one? Not even in Japan? or did the delayed Japanese release date finally arrive? We'll see how well online is implemented when it actually comes out.
More on topic - I have at least one friend who will be excited about this - she's pretty new to gaming so she might not miss the expanded features. If they discounted the Wii version because of removed features they might actually draw in a decent sized group of buyers - and they might be able to discount it if the instruments use wiimotes as well.
