The day many of us have been waiting for has finally arrived - Rock Band solo instrument packs go on sale February 12th.
The drum kit will sell for $79.99 and a guitar will set you back $59.99. No word on if, or when, a Rock Band microphone will be sold, but as Gamespot points out, any USB mic will work on the game.
Now we just need a song that uses four different kinds of percussion instruments?
So drums are 80, game is 60, bundle is usually found between 150-170.
That means if you are getting the game and the drums (which at minimum you should be getting) then you are saving 10-30 bucks, but losing out on a 50 dollar guitar and a microphone.
I'd still rather get the bundle, even with two GH guitars already.

The $59.99 guitar is wireless. So there's reason for ya.
who in the world would WANT the rockband guitar? Even if it was wireless?
A lot of people. I prefer the GH strum bar, but a lot of people in the Rock Band thread preferred the Rock Band one. Plus, you get the extra whammy effects, and the solo fret buttons.

Thats exactly why they are pushing the solo instrument with that kind of price so you "might be better off with the bundle after all" and so paying more overall .

I think there's a whole post on this. The RB guitar allows me to use a pick and strum up and down just as easily as I would a single string on a real guitar. And the fret allows for sliding around easier.
Just like you can only gain more fans by playing a higher difficulty, you can only get better by playing with the RB guitar.
And I don't want wireless. I already have too much wireless shit I need to keep up with...actual gamepads I'm fine with...but not all accessories.

I prefer the fret buttons, the strum bar, and the whammy. The Start and Back buttons are a little big, and they accidentally get hit once every 8-10 hours or so, but other than that I really like it. I would prefer wireless, but I'm not willing to pay that much for it.

I was thinking the same thing. It's cool if you already have the bundle and want a second instrument, but it's a bad value otherwise.
Couldn't you technically use the drum instrument to play the guitar track?
No. The game recognizes what peripheral you have plugged in and only lets you play songs of the same type.
In fact, if you unplug a controller while playing and you plug in a different controller, it kicks you back to the game's title screen and you have to chose the new instrument's notes/parts.

Nice! I unloaded my drums in time. Got $100 for them, which I thought was a fair deal since I never really liked them and they were just taking up space in my living room.

Huh... I play bass in real life and in the game (I can't play guitar because my wrist just doesn't go that way. I have to play overhand) and the rock band guitar just doesn't work for it. Everything from the way to the strap fits to the difficulty in two fingering the strum bar makes for an experience I find terribe. The guitar hero controller I enjoy conciderably more. I will say that the guitar hero strum bar does feel more like pluckign a string, though.
Pray for Slipknot songs, 3 drummers and an industrial percussionist.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I think it would actually be fun. I also recall watching PULSE (live Pink Floyd concert) and they used two drummers.
I've been waiting to get the drums. I bought just the game because I already had the GH3 guitar, and I've been having loads of fun with just the guitar, I can't wait to try out the drums. I've always just used my Live headset to sing so I don't need a microphone, and I tried out the RB guitar in best buy and it was really weak and didn't feel right. I much prefer the GH3 guitar, and I believe that's probably the reason I destroy everyone on Live.
