WoW Passes The 10 Million Subscriber Mark
So, who didn't see this coming? As
Joystiq puts it:
Quote:
Just how big is 10 million? If Blizzard drafted all WoW players into a private army, the armed force would easily trump the size of the world's ten largest armies combined. In civilian terms: WoW players now equal half of Australia's total population.
Broken down by region it looks like this:
Europe = 2,000,000
North America = 2,500,000
Asia = 5,500,000
Will it ever end?

Didn't it hit 9 million like... a year ago?
I remember seeing little gold stickers on the boxes, advertising 9 million.
Seems like it's slowing down its rate of growth, at least, if it took almost a year to get that next million. I guess that's a start to it ending.

If I was The Brain I'd find some way to use WoW to take over the world.

It hit 9 million, last year. It hit 8 with Burning Crusade, so that is more like 2 million in a year.

I wonder if they include the free acounts employees get. Most get 3 free acounts. I had 3 free and 3 at a reduced price.

And people still complain about paying $50 per year for Live when they're paying more than twice that just to play a single, old game.

Wow! Congrats to Blizzard and the Wow team. My condolences to everyone who 'lost' a loved one due to the enormous amount of energy that players invest in this game.

Yup where you don't have to hear 12 year olds complain in voice chat, and you don't need a stupid fucking rank to join many Vegas servers

Yeah... Try getting into a decent guild with a non uber toon or crappy build. Try texting something intelligent in the battlegrounds.

If they let anyone in, how long until they're no longer considered a decent guild?

I'm a few weeks away from re-subscribing...I would now, but it looks like I might be moving to SF in the coming month or two.

You would think they'd give the 10 millionth subscriber some sort of gift, maybe a deluxe Lich King action figure with poseable limbs and wheels under his robe for "Gliding Action"!

Unless the "army" is going on a reconnaissance mission for marshmallows and Mountan Dew, I don't have a lot of confidence in their abilities.

Is that active accounts? If so, wowzers. The reason I ask is between myself and the Mrs. we have five inactive accounts (well, four now with my son using my main account).
Two months after the expansion I had three of my mains at 70, several others in the 60s, one epic flying mount and two regulars. I started a shaman and by the time I got to the wetlands I was just plain sick of WoW.
Just for the record, I'm disabled and retired young, so spare time I have.
