Wal-Mart Makes Amends for Recent Pre-Order Pricing SNAFU
As some of you may be aware, Wal-Mart made the 'mistake' of incorrectly pricing some new and upcoming AAA videogame titles - Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for $30, for example. Needless to say, they were inundated with orders for the 'always low price' before they realized the error of their ways. All orders were subsequently canceled by the corporate megalith, who intimated in the cancellation email that the orders were canceled by the customers...
Still with me?
Realizing perhaps that this was a tad shady on their part, Wal-Mart has decided to suck it up and actually apologize to the affected customers by giving them a free $10 e-certificate to Wal-Mart.com.

As we are always striving to provide a positive customer experience, we will be sending you a $10 electronic Gift Card toward a future purchase as an apology for your recent experience. (One Gift Card per affected customer; this card can only be used online at Walmart.com. Look for details in a separate email.)
As a reminder, your payment method was never charged for the canceled items. Any related authorization hold on your credit or debit card account will be released in accordance with your financial institution's holds policy. Please contact your financial institution for more information.
Oddly enough, I got my $10 e-certificate before I got the above email! I almost deleted it thinking it was a scam - I'm glad I didn't.
So, what are *you* going to buy with your free $10?
I'm kind of tired of the whole "They tried it to pretend the customers canceled the order."
I'm sure it's just an automated process with an automated e-mail that goes out as a result. When dealing with the number of orders they had to cancel, I'm fairly sure it wasn't worth them taking the time to alter that process so that a different initial e-mail was sent.

They have the resources to change the direction the sun rises and sets and you're telling me they couldn't do a little fact-checking or editing? Yeah, free pass for Wal-Mart. Let's all feel sorry for them.

I'm just saying it's a stupid thing to focus on and get all worked up about.
Meh... I'm dealing with some assholes right now who sold me a defective product, made me pay shipping for the return, and are shipping back my replacement hardware via media mail. You guys are getting free $10 coupons because Wal-mart canceled orders that most people knew would probably be canceled to begin with (this stuff happens all the time with Dell, Best Buy, Amazon... etc). I'd say they're handling things pretty well, all things considered.

Perhaps, but let's not get caught up in excusing Wal-Mart for this. They made the mistake and handled the follow-up poorly.
Don't get me wrong, they should be commended for this gesture of generosity. You can be sure the person who made the error is now flipping burgers in his or her own backyard.

They should be commended for nothing.
You can be sure the only reason for this 'gesture of generosity' is because legal told them it would be the cheapest way to make good.
meh, not much of a gesture if you ask me.......now a real physical gift card that i could take to a store would be a nice gesture.....this $10 card basically will pay for shipping costs, making whatever item i would get cost the same as if i just drove down the street and bought it
Eh, I think i'll buy something as close to the $10 mark as possible, and be done with it. As protocol_image said, it's really not going to cover much more than shipping except on media, and is only an attempt to get you to spend money at their store regardless of the snafu- I'm sure plenty of people will turn around and purchase SSBB with it anyway.
I've never cared that much for Wal-mart to begin with, and this didn't help (yeah, it was likely to get cancelled from the get-go, but it's still grating when companies do crap like that). My friends and I had coincidentally been doing some price comparisons the past couple of weeks, and at least where I live, HEB is consistently cheaper than Wal-mart for groceries anyway. So they won't be getting my money, at least for the next several years.
please no one pre-order things. the sent you $10 so you'll actually spend more than $50 (that's the same reason best buy has reward zone, on average $10 free turns into $50 spent).
Personally, i'm going to order soemthing like a dvd with very little profit for walmart. I'll get like a $7 movie so the $10 includes shipping too. If the thousands of people that pre-ordered these things all does that, it may actually cost them some money. who's with me?
Yay free Wal-Mart money. They didn't even have to do this. Its not like they'd lose us as customers. Every HAS to go to Wal-Mart for something sometime or another. It's almost a civil duty!

i'd rather have my smash bros
It's called either 'ship-to-store' or 'in-store pickup', it's free, and you're welcome.
And it only took you 270 minutes to come up with that witty retort!
Yeah, I saw the post 270 minutes ago (I reload the site every minute) and spent that long looking at the screen trying to think of something to say. You caught me.
