ESPN and MLG Join Forces
Folks, today competitive gaming has officially gone mainstream. Major League Gaming and ESPN have joined forces to promote and broadcast MLG events.

ESPN will serve as a primary outlet for news about MLG, providing extensive digital coverage of MLG’s 2008 Pro Circuit Competitions, including exclusive streamed matches, pro player interviews, and scores and stats. Additionally, MLG will host ESPN co-branded online video game tournaments.

ESPN will be on site at each of the 2008 MLG Pro Circuit Competitions, reporting news from its own coverage booth for various ESPN programs and platforms, including ESPN360.com, ESPN’s signature broadband sports network.

Additionally, ESPN.com will launch a competitive video gaming section replete with all of the latest news, information and video as it relates to competitive gaming.
The MLG ESPN Site is already live.

I can't wait to see an impossible grenade toss in Halo 3 on ESPN's "Top 10 Plays"

Major League Gaming is embarassing as fuck to watch. It's shoddy, tacky and is completely exaggerated.

So they do not cover MMA in a meaningful way, which is a mainstream success at this point with good cable ratings and excellent buyrates, but MLG gets the go ahead?

I'm torn, because on one hand you're right - these people have no lives and are the epitome of the image we're trying to shed. On the other hand, watching them play can be amazing and getting this sort of exposure can only go a long way towards legitimizing gaming. Aaahh, trade offs.
