Uncharted is definitely one of the best games on the PS3, and to many, one of the best games of 2007, period. Well, for those of us that really loved the game, here's some good news from Naughty Dog Co-President Christophe Balestra in an interview with French news channel TF1 (via Playfuls.com):
Quote:
TF1: At the end of the creation of a game, are there any "feeling-blue" moods?
CB: No, because I came to talk about Uncharted in France. I think that the game has a profound side at the history level which might appeal [to European gamers]. And after all, we're soon going to start working at the sequel. For that we need to sit back for a while and look at the game from a different perspective, in order to see in which direction we're going to push it. But the world is there, it's rich... So there's plenty of space for a new passionate title. Even better [than the first one].
While they've hinted at the fact that Uncharted was meant to be a franchise since before the game came out, it's nice to know that work will begin on a sequel soon

You'd think it would have to be '09. I know Insomniac has been able to turn out a yearly game and still maintain high quality, but not many devs can do that. I'd rather they take their time, improve on the engine, and make a kick ass sequel.
Of course, they're still rumored to be working on a Jak game too.

I think they COULD pull it off for 2008, but it would not be as good of a game. The Jak games had a large world, cutscenes, but the gameplay was not as heavily script reliant as Uncharted is. Which is why I think 2 years to make a whole new game of Uncharted caliber.

Oh, I agree completely. I'd like to see them do a lot more with it, and there just wouldn't be the time to do that in only 1 year.

Could be some overlap in the schedules of Uncharted 1 and 2, so it may not be safe to assume holidays 2008 is too soon.
Lately, sequels for console games have been more like expansion packs than full sequels. Same engines with a few tweaks and a new campaign/storyline.
I'd be fine with Uncharted 2 going that route and showing up earlier than expected, just like I'd be happy with getting a good Indiana Jones movie earlier than expected.
For everyone complaining about the 360s lineup for 2k8 having too many sequels, let this article make a point for you. No one is above sequels, no one.

Who complained about the 360 having too many sequels? Hell, sequels to games we loved are the reasons we buy most consoles in the first place?

Was it an interview somewhere, or maybe just the rampant expectation of sequel-itis, but I swear Naughty Dog already said that there will be a sequel for sure.
I can't understand why everyone drools over this game.
IMO: It's gunplay, which is most of the game, is some of the worst i've ever experienced. Obviously trying to copy Gears, but failing. There was so much potential for an awesome Tomb Raider like experience, but instead it's a simple linear game with boring platforming (PoP is king here) and frustrating firefights. Also with all Naughty Dog's boasting, the ingame animations simply ended up looking a mess (esspecially the platforming anims), Assassin's Creed's animations were far more impressive and realistic.
they could do a sequel in a year if they just used the same engine/graphics/effects ... just left the game engine exactly the same and built a new game around it. sure it'd seem like an expansion, but with good story-telling and action - it'd be just as fun as the first.

Are you considering a sequel? There are more treasures to be found out there after all. Perhaps some in old Italian cities, like Venice.
We developed Uncharted as a franchise. The pulp action/adventure genre lends itself perfectly to serialization and continued episodes which is one of the reasons we were attracted to it. Right now we are brainstorming on what Naughty Dog’s next project will be, but even if we don’t do an Uncharted sequel right away, you can pretty much count on us doing one in the near future.
