[RUMOR] 360 to get motion sensing peripheral?

Well, if the Wii is nothing more than a fad, then what do we make of this?

Quote:
It appears Microsoft has contracted the Saratoga, California firm, Gyration to handle the peripheral. If that name sounds familiar, it’s for good reason. Gyration is the company responsible for the prototype designs of the Nintendo Wii-mote, which we all know has become a huge success. Most recently, the company was in the spotlight for creating a motion-sensing remote for Microsoft’s Media Center.
Too bad they aren't copying the truly fun part of the Wii remote, which is the pointing functionality.

Lets see how the reaction to this rumor compares to the same one that involved the PS2 rumor form a few months ago. Fun!

I'd say the pointer is probably worst feature on the Wii-Remote, but that's just me. Still not crazy about motion sensing for games, I'll live fine without it on the 360.

I've always thought that adding it to the PS2 would make good business sense (get a bunch of Wii ports to a huge install base). But bringing it to the 360? If that were the case, it would just tell me that MS doesn't understand what makes the Wii successful.

MS needs to keep up their original game and not downgrade to Wii status. This kind of stuff reeks of the same "everything but nothing" attitude Sony has. That frightens me.
They are doing incredible work and need to keep directed towards it.
Halo 3 with motion sense...coming to a awesomely useless controller near you...damn

Actually, the worst part of the Wiimote is the pointing. Motion sensor is also pointless, but more tolerable to deal with in games. Combined, they encourage developers to create annoying games that are bothersome to play, and the controls feel forced, rather than natural or intuitive as they'd like you to believe. Mario Galaxy would have really benefited from classic controller compatibility, as with most games on the Wii.

News is irrelevant though. Xbox 360 gamers as a whole don't care about the gimmickery of the Wii, and a new, expensive motion-sensing controller would not be on their to-buy list.

No, but MS wants to expand their market to tap into the vast potential Wii has. There's a lot of money in there. You're kidding yourself if you think MS has this fidelity to the hardcore gamer.

Lame move, if true. Oh well, I don't expect much support for this other than some half-hearted attempts by a few games.

Does anyone use the 360 camera much?

Have you ever even used a Wiimote?

Wonder if the 360 has enough horsepower to run Wii games in emulation?
