Circling the internets, but this one comes from GameSpot.

Game giant takes $1.16 billion profit as Wii installed base surpasses 13 million worldwide; international sales of DS near 54 million.
Quote:
Nintendo attributed its success to a strong lineup of DS games such as Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (6.95 million sold for the half-year) and the Brain Age series (5.19 million sold in six months). Hardware-wise, the company sold 13.35 million DS systems for the half-year, which brought the lifetime installed base up to 53.64 million worldwide.
The Wii also played a big part in the company's success. The company sold 7.33 million Wii systems in the first half of its fiscal year, which brought the worldwide installed base up to nearly 13.17 million. Mario Party 8 was the only Wii game for which sales figures were provided (2.89 million), but Wii Sports (which is sold separately from the system in some countries) and Wii Play (which comes bundled with a Wii Remote) were said to enjoy "favorable sales."
It appears VGChartz was underestimating sales. Nintendo was 500K units ahead almost a month ago. Nintendo expects to sell 10M Wii systems in the six months to March 31. Sounds like they are finally overcoming supply issues. Demand is another issue...
Mind blowing... Glad to see Nintendo coming back around full circle to the top of the videogame business. Now lets just hope that they've learned proper from their past and don't go "Overlord" on the games industry again if they come to a truly dominant position.
I'm hoping for a well-run benevolent dicatorship this time around.

Heh... And Evil Avatar told me back in March that no one cares about Wii anymore. Guess he was wrong again.

Not like they're having problems making insane gobs of money with the Wii, but lets hope they funnel some of this into luring the 360/PS3 audience with some more non-casual titles.

There is your first mistake, you are using VGChartz for reference.

Do you have a better resource for up-to-date hardware across the globe? I'm aware VGChartz hypothesizes, but they have a margin for error and tend to stay within it.
Feel free come up with better researched figures in your spare time.
It should be noted that MS just posted their earnings as well. 4.4 billion profit for the quarter. Games division posted a profit (yes actual profit) of about 160million, and they sold 1.8million 360's the last 3 months.

You better grab one while demand is low(?) if you want one. Once Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars 2, and Super Mario Galaxy release the console will be nonexistant on the shelves again.
I am hoping, like others have stated, that they take this money and put some massive development time into 2 or 3 new IP's. Something new and innovative as far as gameplay goes, not just with waggle. I want to see Nintendo create a classic RPG franchise, for one thing. Something as far away from JRPG's as possible, adding a new twist onto the RPG genre. I don't want to play another RPG from Japan, where you have 4 characters, the main hero has a huge sword, spiky hair, etc. Fat chance of that happening. But, hopefully they will create some new ideas and games.

What official numbers? How many 360's have sold in Europe? Do you really want to wait until January to find out if Nintendo sold any Wii's in the EU in November?

Well, since this is the only gaming forum that matters, and it isn't banned here...
