It has been mentioned by Miyamoto and Iwata in the past that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption would be the last game of the Prime series, and presumably the last Retro-developed Metroid game. In this Yahoo! developer interview (video), Mark Pacini (MP3:C's director) talks about the game's development, and confirms that "other titles will be created" by Retro now.
Hopefully, before moving on to develop other titles, they first visit other developers making first-person shooters for the Wii and teach them how it's done.
I'd love a 2 1/2D metroid on Wii. That said I hope retro can make a great game w/out nintendo hovering over them to ensure quality in one of their big franchises. I'd heard early versions of the original prime made nintendo so upset they had to send a team to fix the game.
It'll be nice for them to be able to stretch their wings for a bit with some new IP. They've done a pretty bang-up job with the MP series, and I'd like to see what they do with some original material (or perhaps another Nintendo franchise?).
Imagine being the staff at Retro. You've only made 3 games but all 3 are amazing. They're definitely a quality team. Expectations will be high for whatever they do next. I wonder if they'll do a totally new game or bring life to a long lost Nintendo franchise. Speaking of that possibility, if Retro were going to bring back another long forgotten franchise, what would you like to see? Kid Icarus anyone?

To be honest, this is good news. They were good titles, but underwhelming. Remember when you first played Metroid? Then Super Metroid? I didn't get that felling with the Prime's.
Different times, different generation to cater to.

I've noticed that whenever a game is forced to compete with nostalgia, nostalgia wins every time.
This unfortunately will become more and more pronounced as Nintendo continues to crank out more entries in their franchises. They need to seriously start working on some more new IP. Pikmin was a great start. I'd like to see that level of innovation continue.
I am with Blue. By attaching one of their storied franchises to a sub par game in a genre(think Mario RPG, Pokeman, Mario Golf) Nintendo fans and critics have a new darling. Metroid Prime and its sequels are just below average shooters with a nintendo overlay.

Actually, they are GOOD shooters.
And Mario RPG was an awesome game. You shutup, and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if you died or if your mother was eaten by a bear or something.

Meh, you might be right with Mario being slapped on a bunch of shit, but Metroid Prime brought back all the joy of the original, and Super Metroid. I thought it was a perfect addition to the series. Personally, I enjoy the style of Metroid Prime far more than Halo. Goes to show, just because it's a shooter or a new addition to a series doesn't mean it's trying to be the same game.
Adam, I've gotten the sense through your posts that you're the kind of person who is always dissapointed by new stuff. I've been paying attention because you're building my computer. I still say if you take a game for what it is instead of what the other ones were or what it could have been, you'll have a lot more fun. Movies too. If Metroid Prime didn't exist, there'd be a huge hole in the console first person adventure genre, which may be my personal favorite.

Well what did you guys think of the 2D Metroids that were released on the GBA? That style can still be done perfectly, but the problem is the original creator has passed away, so changes are made. In the GBA versions, they were short, and easy. But it was there. Just not all the way.
This is not nostalgia talking. You can still make a deep and challenging 2D Metroid. The problem is, like I stated, that devs are catering to this generation: FPS and simple.
