Ooh, now this is bound to set the fur flying! I'll hand you over to Chris Kohler at Game | Life.

Here's the invitation for the Rock Band party at E3, which from all appearances is the biggest, must-be-there event of the show. Question: in the giant pile of logos that appear on the bottom of the invitation, which is conspicuous by its absence?
Is this more evidence for my (still totally speculative and far-out) theory that there's some kind of exclusivity deal in the works for Rock Band and Xbox 360?
Now, there are plenty of reasons why the PlayStation 3 logo might not be on there. Maybe the only copies of the game at the party will be running on Xbox 360, and Sony didn't want their brand on the same bill as Xbox. Maybe Microsoft is putting up some of the cash for this show, and Sony isn't. Maybe the "super secret special guest" is Steve Ballmer, who's going to perform his show-stopping rendition of Gloria Estefan's "Get On Your Feet."
But consider this, which I neglected to mention when last I was spinning my crazy wheels over this: when Microsoft was calling journalists to book behind-closed-doors meetings to see games like Halo 3 and Mass Effect, it was also booking Rock Band meetings. It was the only third-party game on the list.
This, too, doesn't prove much of anything. I might ask, "why would they show a simultaneous-release, multiplatform game at their first-party game venue?" And you could answer "because it's freaking Rock Band, idiot" and you'd be totally right. I couldn't argue that point. Rock Band might sell as many Xbox 360s as Halo 3 does, even if it's day-and-date with a PS3 version. It's going to be just that immense.
Dude! This would be H-U-G-E if it was true. Even a timed exclusive would hurt Sony and the PS3.
I'm going with the sponsorship theory for now, but waiting to see if the PS3 sales pick up and silently dropping it if not doesn't seem impossible either. I'd guess they've got to be close to selling the hardware at low profits/a loss to make the game attractive, so unless PS3 figures really pick up it might make more sense on 360 only at this time.

Yeah, but I think that was speculation by gamestop or somebody, I don't think it's official.
All this evidence just seems way to circumstantial. I'd figured considering all the licensing for songs, and periphials involved Harmonix would want this one multi-platform.

Wait, what? I know people are getting excited about Rock Band but move as many units as Halo 3?
My dad play Guitar Hero 2, in fact he explicitly bought a used PS2 just to play the first two games. I would not doubt the massiveness of Guitar Hero and subsequently its developer Harmonix, it's fan-base is as rapidly growing as fast as the first Halo game fan-base did.
A: We are putting this out for Xbox 360 and PS3 for Holiday 2007. We're looking into putting it out on other platforms but we haven't announced anything specific.
Good to see "still totally speculative and far-out" rumors making the front page

It'll be multi-platform at release, of this I have no doubt. I imagine the 360 version is just that much more solid at the moment (what multi-platform title isn't?) and as a result will be shown exclusively on MS hardware. Though I doubt little to no attention will be paid to that point by anyone from Harmonix doing the demonstration.
Well, if Harmonix went with USB mics (which they obviously are) and USB drums, those would work cross platform, unless MS still requires some sort of proprietary tech, in which case fuck them. And the 360 has enough USB ports for that, no problem. Then you just need two different wireless controllers, because of MS's goddamned proprietary wireless crap, and so you might as well just go multi-platform, since the PS3 guitar will be cheaper to make anyway. As an added bonus, the Wii uses Bluetooth as well, so PS3 controllers would work when the Wii version of Rockband comes out.
And add that Harmonix and Sony have had a very good relationship for a long time, so I doubt this is true.

Fuck Microsoft's incompetent and unhelpful product support.
I wouldn't doubt it. How many of us were doubting all the other exclusive or even multiplatform games. Jezuz MS has walked away with more than this. They have big pockets and surprisingly enough have a great deal of developers liking them at the moment. The sooner everyone realizes that this time everything is a whole new ballgame the easier it will be to eat crow as we all have in the past 2 years. I mean jezuz MS is racking up the exclusives "That Matter" or multiplatform games "That matter left and right"
Factor in the hard reality that Sony is not doing well at pushing their system and its not in even half as many homes...well again anythings possible.

Well, I doubt it's true, but if it is, that sucks.
I'm a huge GH fan and I only own a PS3 and Wii. I won't be willing to spend $600 bucks on a 360 + the game & instruments, especially around holiday season.
If this is true they just lost a sale.
Though I'm sure you'll all just say "too bad, you should have bought a 360, idiot!". Seems everything is about Sony VS MS on EvAv lately, forget just being a gamer with a budget.
Wait, what? I know people are getting excited about Rock Band but move as many units as Halo 3?
Do you know how many PS2's Guitar Hero sold?
I think it's not crazy to think that Microsoft would throw a big pile of money at Harmonix and MTV in order to make Rock Band and exclusive.
MTV has been backing 360 for a while now, if you'll remember, and Guitar Hero (Which would be foolish not to try to make Guitar Hero 3 challenge Rock Band's multi instrument format in some way) has pretty much been aligned with Sony.
If MS was like, look, we'll work with you to make our downloadable content system make you buckets of money, and all you have to do is be exclusive to us for a while... well then.
Also of note, and PLEASE READ THIS, Microsoft and Sony are throwing buckets of money at developers to buy exclusivity and timed exclusivity for their games. Okay, with that being the case, what developer would come out of the gate saying "We're only making our game for xxx". It's essentially giving away any bargaining power they might have to make any sort of deal.
I think what people forget is that game makers aren't on the consumers side. They're on the side of making money, and generally, when it comes to announcements, they will tell you whatever it takes for them to make more money, or to possibly make more money. It's the same thing with the Sony pricecut denial.
Well, I doubt it's true, but if it is, that sucks.

actually I would say... why not buy Guitar Hero 3 for PS3? O_o
I'm sure we're going to be hearing about Red Octane's plans for multiinstrument gaming later this week.
(remember when they regiestered all those other "hero" domains?)
Also, Konami is actively trying to port it's "Mania" games over to the states in the wake of Guitar Hero's success so... you'll have plenty of rhythm games to choose from next year, I'm sure.
