StarCraft 2 is Coming

Has it really been 9 years? Blizzard's most beloved franchise is making its comeback on May 19th at Blizzard's World Wide Invitational (WWI) in Seoul, according to a TeamLiquid translation of this original Korean news article.

Quote:
It has been confirmed that StarCraft 2 is being developed in 3D, a new race has been added and existing units' characteristics will have many changes. Additional details will only be revealed to certain parts of WWI.

However, trustworthy information is being leaked from previous Blizzard employees, and through an acquaintance of ex-Blizzard North employees, StarCraft 2's development and its announcement at the WWI has been confirmed.

MBC Game's Lee Sang-Ho head said "Frankly, it's half anticipation and half worry. If SC2 is released in a form that is compatible with e-sports broadcast, there will be many new gamers and the entire industry will develop. However if it comes out in a form that is not easy to broadcast, like WarCraft 3, StarCraft fans will focus on the sequel while the original league will suffer a decline", expressing a cautious mindset.

OnGameNet's StarCraft commentator Um Jae-Kyung said "Blizzard has probably already grasped the difference between this nation's gamers and foreign gamers' difference in inclination through WarCraft 3. So I'm hoping for a more balanced structure, a structure with e-sports in mind. However, I believe that the e-sports league will continue to focus on StarCraft and a new league focusing on StarCraft 2 will form, the industry growing bigger as a result. As a gamer, I'm really looking forward to it.
MBC Game and OnGameNet are the organizers of the two big StarCraft leagues in Korea. For them, the progamers, and for the fans across the world, news of a SC2 is both bracing and alarming. Will SC2 live up to its own pedigree, or will it fall? Only time will tell that tale!!

En Taro Tassadar, Executor. We meet again.

I am both shocked and surprised at this unthinkable turn of events. StarCraft 2. Who would have guessed?

Well if it's true they've certainly had enough time to get the damn thing right.

I think it'd be neat if the new species were the Xel'Naga or however you spell it.

Has it really been 9 years? Feels longer.

Anyway, I don't envy them. If its not better than sliced bread mixed with jetpacking ninja lesbians, the fans will be angry and disappointed.

Will the new race be ancient machines that slumbered for millions of years before awakening to harvest the other races for their immortal star gods? Or will it be advanced amphibians living in a caste society that ally with other minor races for the greater good?

Honestly I have never been unhappy with a Blizzard product. I think they'll handle StarCraft 2 just fine.

I would just like every one to know that this is about as good a news as you can expect to get today. Let us hope against hope that it can live up to the original and its expansion.

Shit, look at how Command and Conquer 3 turned out, I think I may be getting my hopes way up.

Its more than annoying to state the obvious that SC still remains the most balanced RTS out there, its very hard to improve on something so good other than graphics. It is a tall order blizzard has to overcome especially on a game which was made by a team that 90% of no longer resides among blizzard but in Flagship Studios/Arena Net.

PS: For the love of god NO FUCKING HEROES.

Too bad most of their current players won't be able to run this one.

Seriously, people have been playing SC for 9 years. Assuming it won't change all that much, how are new players going to catch up with the current playerbase? They'll be slaughtered online.
