The demo has passed all test stages now and is currently in preparation to go live. I'll just fish up some links and work out the timings I've been given and edit this post accordingly, but I wanted to give you the news as soon as possible.
I must say that I'm very impressed how EA are keeping us so up to date. It's a rare sight these days, and on top of that this is the slow-moving corporate giant EA we're talking about.
Post 1: "Since there is a lot of interest in the demo, this post is the official news, which will be updated every time we know something for certain.
As of 11:40am BST today, the expectation is that the demo will not be available today as it has yet to pass final stage testing.
The demo is anticipated to release tomorrow at which point it will only be available on Gamespot for "Gamespot Complete" subscribers.
The full open-to-all release of the demo is expected next week. We do not have a fixed day for this release at this time."
Post 2: "Update :
We've now heard that the demo will not required any form of paid subscription to Gamespot. When ready, the demo will first be available from here.
Apologies for the confusion regarding when and where the demo will be available, however this news should be treated as "most accurate" at time of writing.
Should any further changes occur I will update this post accordingly."

Everything I've seen points to the demo being released exclusively to Gamespot for a day or two, but that it will not be part of their subscriber only service. I imagine you'll have to register but not pay.
