Nintendo's Mountain of DS for Child's Play

Penny Arcade has a picture up of the donation of games and systems sent from Nintendo up on their site.

Quote:
We got a huge delivery last week from Nintendo for Child’s Play. Kiko snapped some pictures once we had everything unboxed.
That is pretty much all they said on the massive mountain of DS gameage for the kids. Which I find a bit odd due to the good press they gave Sony for a far less amount that was coincidentally placed right after the Flog fiasco.

I just am surprised Nintendo isn't getting the same kinda press for a much larger donation, though I am happy because companies should do good things for reasons other then making bad press go away....

But wait, are these donated from nintendo, or are these purchased from nintendo in bulk, and shipped to them, using child's play funds? (Therefore, delivered from nintendo)

I assumed it was the latter, why is are you guys assuming the former? Am I missing something?

Considering Nintendo maked $4.5 billion in revenue last year... i sure this'll make a dent

I'm reading it as a donation from Nintendo - Gabe wrote that the shipment had come from them and he generally heaps praise on the community when it comes from us (i.e. "You guys bought all these DS's" (grammar police? DS's...DSs?). Instead, he just states, "We got a huge delivery last week from Nintendo for Child’s Play."

As to Sony getting more press, I'd guess Sony wanted more. A little PR grease to move the wheels of Journalism mayhaps?

If it's a donation, I figure the pics say more than words can.

DSs. DS's would either be a contraction for "DS is" or the possessive.

I have to agree with the Capn here. Those pictures show a pretty stunning number of DSs and games.

This may explain why I haven't been able to find a DS in stores since November!

I was kinda curious why a big donation showed up now, several months after the holiday season, which Child's Play is sort of built around. Not that the timing really makes any difference in the end. Just thought it odd... Maybe it just wasn't doable a few months back, for whatever reason.

Agreed. I saw that and thought, "Wow, that's amazing." A paragraph praising Nintendo isn't necessary. The pics are enough.

Ya, the pictures speak for themselves. PA certainly has nothing against Nintendo, so imagining up some unspoken slight is digging too deep.

Awesome. As much as corporations can sometimes suck, they can also display real class and heart, given the opportunity.

Cool. Very cool.

It's not a donation. They were bought directly from nintendo with Child's Play cash at a deep discount.

I saw that...and it made me tear up a bit. The numbers really do not tell the whole story, but Child's Play did a lot of good last year. And to think that huge pile is just a faint vapor of all the stuff that PA managed to get donated; just a great tale of humanity.
