Word is beginning to trickle down to fitbabits HQ from several independent sources that Microsoft has all but completed the purchase of Capcom. I'm not going to spell out the ramifications if this one is true, but I will mention two words and a number - Resident Evil 5
More as it becomes available...
Note that this is firmly in the rumor category and that's where it will stay until either Microsoft or Capcom can confirm or deny it.
Editor's Note - For those curious about my sources, I can't name names for obvious reasons, but I can say that I've heard this from people on "the inside" and from some executives in the retail sector. - fitbabits

For Sony. I'm going to put another little nail in my PS3 miniature coffin.
Like it or not, MS has a shit-load of cash and can buy their way into success in virtually any market. Sony was seriously in trouble before. Now? MORE.
How big is Capcom when compared to Konami, Square and the others? What franchises does Capcom have in their stable of games besides RE? Lost Planet and Dead Rising, right? Many others I'm sure.
This wouldn't exactly be good for Nintendo either. The Megaman Battle Network games alone have been big sellers for the GBA and DS. Personally, I really wouldn't like to see this happen, it would make it all but necassary for me to have to grab a 360.

Its been being talked about quite frequently lately. I won't be surprised if I see an official statement from Capcom or Microsoft time today. Speaking of Capcom...GETTING LOST PLANET THIS AFTERNOON!!!!
That makes no sense. It is as likely to kill Capcom as it is to help Microsoft. And given the success of their exclusivity deals with Nintendo last generation I can't see why they would try something like this again. Not the mention the potential backlash from Japanese gamers who would now look upon Capcom as gaijin developers.
All in all potentially good news for Microsoft. Potentially bad news for gamers (do we really need another EA?), Capcom and Sony.
I could totally see MicroCapcomSoft continuing to develop for the DS. Remember hearing recently that Halo DS _almost_ made it out, and the type of games the DS is going to get don't really belong on or compete with the 360, for the most part.

Mega Man, Streetfighter, Devil May Cry and Silent Hill (I'm not sure about that one) come to my mind.
Makes sense. Capcom's been doing well sales-wise and obviously the fact that it's a Japanese company is a plus for MS. Capcom's price tag has to be pretty steep but nothing MS can't handle.
If this is a false rumour, it must be because Capcom refused, but I think it's real.

Seems to me Dead Rising did pretty well in Japan. and while not a Capcom game, Blue Dragon helped sell a lot of 360s in Japan without many people cursing Sakaguchi's name.
