Getting Up, the much maligned pro-graffiti game should have spelled out the end of Marc Ecko's foray into gaming. Sadly, it didn't.
Quote:
Ecko still has a game division at his company, and the team there is working on ideas for a next-gen console — or consoles — with a new developer. His next project won't be a sequel to "Getting Up," a series that is tied to the fate of the now-struggling Atari. But otherwise he wouldn't say much; he did that too early with his last game. "A lot of stories got spoken a bit too early," he said. "I won't announce a title or content but I'll announce the developer or publisher real soon. It's exciting." But will it be short?
This is what happens when someone who thinks he's "all that" tries to make games his way. Perhaps he should have received more wedgies in high school. Maybe then he could make a better game.
So this guy is a FASHION DOUCHEBAG and thinks he can make games cuz stupid people wear his t-shirts.
Right.
"I'll be back"? Is that a threat or a promise?
Pretty much. Especially how childish he did act when reviews were coming for "Getting Up". He fired back like a highschooler. Seriously, the game was lame. I don't even know why The Collective decided to work on this game with him.
I think Ecko should just make a fashion game similar to Dress Up Barbie. It's an industry he knows (fashion).

Did anyone here actually play getting Up? I'm curious if it had any redeeming qualities.
Well, it does have the quality of being able to inflate the ego of a fashion fool.
I'm convinced the fashion industry is all about ego and trends, and has absolutely nothing to do with quality whatsoever. People think gaming is full of fanboys need to look at fashion, where fans spend crazy amounts of money for nothing but a logo.
Lunacy!

The Collector's Edition did come with a marker so you could go out and do some tagging of your own. If you get caught, all you have to tell the police is: "Hey, it's cool! Marc Ecko said graffiti is the shizzle!"

It was a gift for me, I played it for a good month trying to understand what he was trying to do. And it would have worked, but he tried too hard. It was just a bad game and premise.
I gave it away to my 11 yr old nephew. He quickly forgot about it for Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.
The sad thing is, Marc Ecko really does view himself some kind of game guru. He has a little column in one of the U.S. men's magazines (Maxim, FHM, Stuff, etc.) devoted entirely to video games.
The game guru qualifications have apparently dwindled to only two; money and a mouthpiece.
Even if this turned out to be the best game ever, and I mean the unquestionable best game ever, I still wouldn't buy it. I don't like the fucker, I don't like what he does or who he is.

Aren't you the big shot. I don't wear Ecko products, but no reason to start hating on his line of clothes or people who wear them.
They're successful and he's made something of himself; Christ, give him credit in that respect. You have to take a shot at the guy right away.
No. People who buy his $30 t-shirts are stupid. Good for him that he's able to seperate fools and their money; he's still an arrogant and talentless "fashion icon," and to me, there could be nothing more meaningless.

Sheesh, you're closed minded, man. By that logic, I guess anyone who doesn't mind spending money on a look they enjoy is a moron.
I actually know someone working with his company on the next game...there is promise.
bap, it doesn't take a genius to know that the next game is just going to include painting graffiti using the Wii controller as a central part of the gameplay. It's so unimaginative, it's right up Ecko's alley.
I think Ecko should stick to what he does best ... being a fucking fashionista bastard.

I played Getting Up a lot when it came out...its a tough one to call. The urban/graffiti theme actually works pretty well, but the rest of the game's rough edges really brigng it down. The collision detection, combat, and enemy AI are all subpar, and the whole game suffers as a result.
The concept and theme are great in the game, but the execution is lacking.

Agreed. I actually enjoyed Getting Up, for what it was worth. The PC version suffered consoletextureitis, which didn't help.
