Crysis Delayed (again)

Blues News brings word straight from the Crysis Forums that the game will be delayed a little.
Quote:
“There has been a lot of recent talk about Crysis' ship date. I wanted to send out a message to all those who are interested and set the record straight. The game will ship a little later than planned. I want to assure everyone that Crytek are working as hard as we possibly can to deliver this game to our fans and consumers in the earliest timeframe that meets our high quality threshold. Taking the extra time in the studio is the right decision because it helps us be sure that we can bring you the experience you expect from this new game.
The longer this gets delayed, the less impressive the graphics get.

So they didn't delay it just to make sure computers will be able to run it?

I think its because of the over exposure, you sort of get used to the way they look. Thats the thing with graphics they get boring pretty quick, so there definatly has got to be a game in there cos moving vegitation etc do not a game make.

Is it me or does anyone else miss the old days and pc gaming? This year to me has been the worst year for PC games since I got my first pc(1990)

I remember how fun it was when you would go online and read plans from the deelopers, the id vs Epic battles and Quake 2 vs Unreal wars. It was just as much of a blast reading everyones posts as it was playing online. It just felt more like a close knit community. Now online gaming is huge with consoles and its gotten so commercialized.

Anyone else feel the same way?

When it finally comes out we might actually be able to run it.

Some of my PC gaming friends are rather pissed and they were further pissed when I told them that being PC gaming enthusiasts and playing 2 games a year just means they're more likely to be disappointed. When GRAW was released, they were impressed but decided to upgrade their PCs instead of buying a 360 because "They were waiting for Crysis."

I bet they'll have to upgrade again, when Crysis comes out in 3rd Quarter 2007.

Anyone remember S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? That and Crysis are becoming the DNFs of the 21 Century.

I do, hell Unreal sabotaged itself and so did Quake trying to appeal to the masses with retarded entries in the quake series like Quake 4, and the next entry Quake Wars which is a rehash of Enemy Territory.

FPS gaming has piqued and now its in the inevitable lull, and it might never come back because they're bastardizing what started on PC as great solid franchises and now they're being watered down for the masses on consoles.
It really is a sad time for FPS gamers, now all that FPS games are about is graphics with very little emphasis on any gameplay.

As for the Crysis delay, who gives a shit , you want to put your game on a NEW OS that your current customers(Far Cry owners) likely don't have, well then fuck you.

I completely agree. The PC market has gone way downhill, and I think the console market is quickly headed in the same direction. I'm sick to death of the same old shooting games. Most of my favorite PC franchises are either dead or nowhere near as good as they once were, and many of the console franchises have (IMHO of course) been played out already to death. The hype machine only exacerbates these issues.

It's asinine to compare Crysis to STALKER. Far Cry came out in 2004, and Crysis wasn't even officially announced until January 2006 -- less than a year ago! STALKER was announced in 2001.

DNF is the "DNF", of both the 20th and 21st century, no one can beat that.

Add to that, that scott miller said in the gamasutra interview that they wont start the hype machine for a game until ~1 year before release, which would mean chances are slim even for a xmas 07 release. There's just nothing that can take the place of DNF.

Definitely not just you. I remember a time where the PC was enough of a platform for gaming on its own, that I didn't even need any consoles. Nowadays, if I were to be a PC only player, I would have nothing to play but WoW and CS:S most of the time, waiting while the next game comes out in a few months.

The larger problem form me now, is trying to justify a major PC upgrade to play Crysis, when there really isn't anything else on my radar that needs that upgrade. That's a hell of a lot of money for one game. I might as well just buy a 360 since its library is becoming so attractive now.

Sounds like "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." to me.

EDIT: I jumped a head, I guess some others agree with me.

Screw you hippie! If they released the game before it were ready I'd bet my ass you would be the first in line to blame it on EA. >_<
Get off my internets!

And to all those comparing this to STALKER, for fuck's sake! The game was announced in 2006!

I miss the game play from the early 90s as much as the next PC gamer, but I do not think this year is bad at all.

Company of Heroes is an excellent game and should give game of the year for all platforms a run for their money. I had a pretty good time with Oblivion, DarkStar One, Heroes of Might and Magic V, and Empires at War. Even the new Tomb Raider was a step in the right direction (after so many steps back). Neverwinter Nights 2 also saw its release (I did not play it though).

We saw DX 10 cards released as well as physics cards. Not that I am looking forward to needing a physics card, but you never know, maybe they catch on.

Was this 1998? No, it wasn’t. It was not a bad year though, much less the worst year.

Wasn't Crysis a DirectX 10 launch title that we all had to upgrade our PC's in order to play? Guess this really hurts Microsoft/Nvidia/ATI more than anyone else since this was a "showcase" title.
