Some new ads for the Sony PS3 have hit the net. There are 2 of them right now up at YouTube.
The first ad talks about the power of the Cell processor and why the Cell Broadband Engine is smarter.
The second ad talks about the capacity of Blu-Ray and how 50GB allows for developers to create larger worlds.
I gotta admit, these ads are pretty damn cool. I like the whole "science show" aspect of them. Of course, they are overflowing to the brim with marketing BS. Since when can a computer only perform 1 task?
Speaking of ads, you should see Eglinton subway station in Toronto. All the walls, floors, turnstiles, pillars, and normal ad signs are completely PS3 - the whole station. It's pretty crazy.
And single core computers CAN only perform one task at a time. That is indeed a fact. That's why we're getting dual core systems. Operating systems just "timeshare" the single core, and it happens at such a blazingly fast rate that it just appears that programs are running simultaneously.
Those are very well done. That "the cell may even be smarter than you line" at the end of the first is a really bad idea, but the rest of it was well done, well thought out.
Am I the only one that thought they were boring? I couldn't even get through the first one.

You just gotta love the Sony hype train. If Bluray and PS3 are so awesome then how is it possible that the games on Wii and X360 are just as good or even better?
I remember reading that the AI in Assassin's Creed was going to be smarter on the 360. How can the cell be 'smarter'? Smarter than the PS2 but not as smart as the 360. ;-)

I agree. The ads themselves were great, but the gameplay footage (esp in the first one) looked pretty bad compared to the super-detailed raindrop renderings they were doing like five seconds before.
