Ubisoft Data Breach / Hacked

Got an email about my Uplay / Ubisoft account, it linked to this;

During this process, we learned that data were illegally accessed from our account database, including user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords. No personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft, meaning your debit/credit card information was safe from this intrusion.

As a result, we are recommending you to change your password by clicking this link.

Out of an abundance of caution, we also recommend that you change your password on any other Web site or service where you use the same or a similar password.

An official forum thread has been created for you to post your questions.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Looks like a password change is in order for all of those with Ubi accounts.

The games industry sure does suck at securing data.

I can't even remember what password I originally used, so I don't know what other sites may use it. Meh.

I believe that would fall in the category of understatement.

Never change passwords from links in emails....

Log into your UPlay account and do it from there IMO. Why on earth are they asking you to click a link in an email? they should simply be asking you to log in and change it.... that's just stupid of them and they should know better that to use the classic Scam model to request password changes.. they even use odd English just to make it more suspicious "Out of an abundance of caution..."

Seems legit but I deleted the email immediately assuming a scam.

It's not a scam. Trust me I went through and checked the links myself before posting them.

We would never post something that would potentially harm any reader.

Even if it was a scam, the only thing they would be getting out of it was a new password. The link does not require that you enter in your old password, just the new one that you want to use. So unless you are recycling passwords (which you really shouldn't) there is no real loss.

For Ubisoft, by making this pretty necessary and automatic, they greatly increase the number of customers who change their passwords and reduce liability for offering refunds or other things if current, hacked accounts were used to make purchases or trade-in UPlay credits.

Yep... my email client put the email in the junk folder automatically because it's so suspicious.

ha ha! I deleted the email thinking "nice try losers" and then came home and saw this post and was surprised that it was actually legit.

Funny how this happens the day after I play a game that uses Uplay. It had been a while the damn update process was a pain in the ass but I guess the annoyance is not over...

I have not had a problem using their little service since the launch of Far Cry 3. So I don't really have any complaints. I did the obligatory password change, which seems rather commonplace in todays world, and it took less than a minute. Not that big a deal.

*phew* glad I played FarCry3 in a manner which didn't require a legit UPlay account.

Ubisoft sucks.

Every time I consider breaking my Ubi boycott to buy assassin's creed they remind me why I don't let them have my money.
