Sony Wins E3 2013!

Boom! Headshot! I suspect a lot of people at Microsoft will not have jobs tomorrow.

Pay for multiplayer is a bad move, but still better than what Microsoft is doing. Still waiting on confirmation of region free.

This is a blemish, also I think automatic game updates were listed under PSN sub as well? I assume one can still patch without PSN, maybe it's just more manual/more of a pain.

I knew they would eventually charge for mp. Microsoft prints money from Live, they had no incentive competition-wise to not charge for it anymore (now that they made up their early losses/have something good enough to actually charge for in PSN).

In their defense, I can't really fault them on the MP thing. Those servers don't pay for themselves. As long as they keep prices reasonable, I think that the launch price of the system, and the lack of used-game DRM more than makes up for it.

Yes, but if you have an Xbox 360 you are already paying. I think I'll let my Xbox Live Gold subscription lapse and then call it a day on the 360.

I put in a pre-order for the Xbox One, thinking I might sell it on Ebay. Now, I don't think I'll bother.

you can tell sony has made drastic last minute changes to their plan after witnessing the harsh backlash from the xbox restrictions. it really did not take much to win this round for them.

they did the right thing. the gamer wants ownership of the physical media with no restrictions on enjoyment or interaction and sony has delivered.

being a pc guy for years now, i did not plan on purchasing any console but i just might buy the ps4 out of a show of support mentality.

seriously just let it lapse. support freedom-based platforms.

there will be no market for a drm-style device like the xbox on launch day.

the only DRM product is an MMO-style platform because it is naturally inherent in how it is offered. anything else attempting to place the shackles can rot in hell.

As I continue to think about it I just might pick one up. It has to be able to play media files from my server, though. Anyone know if that's probable?

I'm going to let it lapse since after the end of the year I'll be changing how my systems are hooked up in my office and I won't need Gold for anything after that. I'll still get free Netflix from my PS3.

From what I saw the advantages of the PS4 were:
$100 cheaper
Doesn't require always on internet (non issue for me).

I use a program called PS3 Media Server to do that now. It mostly works. It's a little clunky.
