No no... I don't care how good they are and how much I wanted to play them back in the day. I did not have time for them then (barely got halfway through ONE of those titles), and I sure as hell don't have time for them now, especially with the ancient graphics most have, lack of widescreen support, etc. So I am resisting the urge.

Baldur's Gate, Planescape, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights have all been modded to support high/widescreen resolutions. They look rather good, even by the standards of modern top-down RPGs.

As for the argument that they take too long to play, well... Why do we enjoy games if not to play them?

Dude, not only the Infinity Engine still looks good today because of the pre-rendering (compared to older 3D games), but the community has patched every game for widescreen support, and much, much more. Stop talking out of your ass next time.

Wait wait....don't tell me you haven't played them? That's nothing short of a travesty.

I replayed Planescape Torment just a few years ago and it still holds up. A masterpiece.

Ok, I'm going to buy them all except that Demonstone and Dragonshard crud.

Instead of critcizing me for missing out on all the great PC only RPGs that were released after 1997 (with the exception of Fallout 2 and M&M VI), it would be much better of someone here to provide link to the best widescreen + high res mods for all the games included (aside from the two crud titles).

I've never had much luck with mods of any kind. There are always 100 different kinds and I never know which one is the best one to get. Please be gentle.

Just FYI, if you have other games in the series, you can get the remaining ones for 80% off.

I had them all save for NWN2. Got that one for 4 bucks.

LOVE GOG!!!!

The GOG forums have stickies that give detailed walkthroughs with links to all the mods for these games.

Enjoy!

A majority of the games in this deal are pure brilliance. Classics and a few masterpieces. A must own!

In the gog link for each game, there is a full run through on how to "update" each game. I wouldn't have bought them if it wasn't so dumbed down. Too lazy for the research.

I am working my way through a complete BG1&2 playthough (first time for both, and I'm maintaining a persistent character).

FunFact - if you have an older laptop, you can load xubuntu on it (low overhead, no Unity bullshit) and then package called "Play On Linux" which can be fed installers from GOG and make a ton of games playable. Also, the mods are stupid-simple to apply.

Anyone know how well these games play nicely with windows 8? Would be a heck of a deal for a windows surface pro owner. Mobile gaming goodness there!

They probably all run fine. I have BG 1&2 from gog.com and they work fine with mods installed. Running in high res with widescreen support using the BG2 engine for BG1 with no problems so far.

Haven't tested the others though.

I've played BG2, PS:T and both Icewind Dales on Windows 8. There are some issues but mods take care of most of them.

Then I would have to say they are worth every penny. These great games in a portable format is almost a grail achievement.
