Flesh Eating Zipper is reporting that System Shock 2's legal issues are over and will soon be coming to Steam and GOG. According to their "inside sources", a developer called Night Dive Studios has been hired to port the game to modern operating systems.
Quote:
System Shock, the cult favorite PC horror franchise, is ready for new life incredibly soon, FleshEatingZipper has learned. According to our sources, a “new development/publishing studio will be handling the release”, spearheaded with a new digital release of System Shock 2 on GOG within days, the perfect starting point for any classic PC gaming connoisseur. A Steam release is said to follow within the next month at a later, undetermined date. While the complexities of such a new deal were not revealed, for many years following the dissolution of Looking Glass Studios, the legal rights to the series have been up in the air and long-time fans have had to resort to abandonware or other, illicit means to acquire their rad cyberpunk dosage of Shodan’s madness. No longer!
UPDATE: This article had previously stated a Steam release within a month, but our sources said it was not quite that soon. A new trailer for the release is supposed to be dropping soon and we’ll update you as soon as we get our hands on it! The extra content being bundled as part of the GOG release will be “well worth the price”, we’re told.
This would be awesome. I missed out on this the first time around and I have been hoping for a proper re-release. I typically don't like to wade around the depths of the internet to try to get games that are not available so this is quite welcome news.

I am not afraid of anything in this world. I watch horror films with glee, breeze through literature in the dark and take naps while the girl downstairs begs me to let her out. Games, however, games scare the living shit out of me. I made it, oh, five minutes into SS2 before a zombie clubbed me to death while begging for help. They found me under my desk sucking my thumb.
The original had co-op, so maybe this version will have it too. Still, I think this is a much better solo game; you really feel alone out there in space when playing by yourself.
Insta-buy, no doubt about it. Haven't played this one and I have always loved horror games and FPS, so this combo will be awesome. Heck, I'd pay the full $50 if it included SS1.
They should also release system shock pocket with the mouse mod...seriously...the mouselook was the best upgrade they did in SS2...the game itself can't hold a candle to the awesomeness of the original.
Played this twice, once alone and once in co-op with a friend. The co-op is a bit flaky at times with lag and sync issues, but it worked. Also your character looks really goofy to the 2nd person playing with you, but the game is still one of my favorites.
