Final Fantasy XIV was shut down today in preparation of the game's re-launch as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. To mark the occasion Square Enix has released a CG video titled, End of an Era.

First, that's a really great video. It is epic, classic Squaresoft with Bahamut absolutely ripping the world apart. Good stuff.
I'll be interested to see if the game actually is any good. FF XI was such a grind that I have trouble investing in any other Squenix MMO. I know they've done a massive rebuild on FF XIV, but it is still an Eastern MMO. I doubt they've lowered the grind enough for it to appeal to me as I like playing a variety of MMOs now and simply won't invest that kind of time into any of them.
For example, I won't even play WoW's endgame anymore because they've added faction grinds to get gear. You don't just have to do heroic dungeons and then weekly raids. You have to earn faction to be able to buy gear with the Justice and Valor points you earn from them or rely completely on drops - which is super slow. I could see myself putting up with the daily quest faction grind if they made reputation be cumulative across all characters on an account, but I like playing alts and getting them all geared up. . . I had 3 85s and I'd play their dailies and weekly LFRs. . . not usually all of them, but I'd play the character I wanted or the guild needed and get steady upgrades. With the faction grind, I got annoyed and have unsubscribed.
After the horrible beta experience, I stopped following the XIV news. But this trailer for the relaunch was amazing. XIV is now back on my radar and hopefully it's better.
However, I wonder how many WoW fans that are unfamiliar with FF are going to complain that Square Enix copied Cataclysm by having a dragon destroy the world.
All these years and Square is still obsessed with meteo and Bahamut.
Older FF's had the meteor attack they had a better plot that didn't center around it. It wasn't until FF7 (and only) FF7 when it became something they were obsessed with. Well I can't speak much for anything after 9...so whateves.

Yes, the story moves on. That's why they are 'plot points' and not 'endings'. It was one of the more memorable scenes from FF4 and advanced the story forward... my point still stands.
