Now that the full characters are released, I'm actually a little teed off. They made a big deal about how in addition to the all new giants characters, there would be new light core characters and new series 2 characters, but the light core and series 2 haracters are almost all the same. If you already have Prism break from the first game, do you really want the new light core prism break and the new series 2 prism break? What the f were they thinking?

Oh wow, that sucks. Guess I'll only be collecting Giants and all new chars this time around.
Apparently 22 or so of the original 32 characters are being reissued with new figurines as series 2, and all 4 of the light core characters from the first game are also being released as series 2.
I'm still not sure if the light core figures that are introduced in Giants will also have regular versions. This looks like a hell of a lot of overlap and redundancy. They are going to turn the sweet smell of success into the unwelcome stench of greed.
Whimbrel, the link above says the repeat characters have different POSES. And that they did it in part to maintain compatibility of most characters with the original Skylanders game. That and the creative department didn't want to work OT I guess.

It's Activision. They only have something like two successful franchises right now... Call of Duty and Skylanders.
When you have almost 100% of your IP tied up in two products you do have to do a bit of milking.
I'm shocked there wasn't more DLC and those DLC 3-packs for the first game.
My kids got a transparent red Drill Sergeant at Walmart on Friday. It's pretty cool, but stuff like that turns the after market into a feeding frenzy and you can't get the figures your kids want.

I'm not sure what the benefit of a new pose is, but since the original characters all work in the second game, I don't see what the value is in reissuing new versions of the old characters for the second game "to maintain continuity with the first game" when the original characters already have that.
Either way, I think that our original frenzy has subsided quite a bit, so now I don't think we will be trying to collect everything or getting anything really redundant. With all of the extra voices in the new game it is beginning to seem a bit like they are JarJaring it up a bit also.

I saw a list someplace of all of the special edition figures that were either transparent or silver or something, and it was a little shocking. I couldn't believe how many variant types of skylanders figures they had come up with.
On the other hand, I liked the little tie in promo with the little sidekick figurines that came with thos potato chip bundles. My son got the little Terrabyte guy and I wish we had picked up all of those. They remind me of pets from Warcraft. It seems that somebody was paying attention.
