Quote:
Activision, Inc. announced today that Infinity Ward’s critically acclaimed Call of Duty 2 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system has sold more than one million units in the U.S. alone, according to NPD Funworld.
The award-winning title is the # 1 best selling game on Xbox 360 and continues to be among the highest rated games for the platform, according to Gamerankings data.
“We are proud that Call of Duty 2 is the first title to sell over one million units on the Xbox 360 in the U.S.” said Robin Kaminsky, executive vice president, Activision Publishing. “Activision has made a strong commitment to develop leading franchises for the next-generation consoles and we look forward to continuing that successful strategy with our titles launching on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the Wii this fall.”

Here's an interesting point - how many 360's have been sold at this time?
How many copies of CoD 2 have been sold at this time?
Attach rate?
(too lazy to look it up myself - but I have faith that some errant EA reader already knows all!)
Somewhere around 6-8mil X360s I thought I heard. That's an attach rate of around 15%.
This is why the PS3 devs are so pissed off. The best-selling launch title for the PS3, at a 15%-20% attach rate, will STILL only elicit around 100,000 units sold. That is NOTHING for a console game.

Worst case, CoD2 has an attach rate of 20%. Not too damn shabby at all.

Yeah, but that data is through June. Dead Rising came out since then.

That is ridiculous. Of course the attach rate would be higher if there was less games available. CoD 2's attach rate was probably significantly higher at launch.
I'd say a 20% attach rate, or even a 15% attach rate, is a damned impressive thing. Especially in a genre that some would argue is saturated/tired. Either FPS or WW2 FPS, either way.
Kudos to Infinity Ward. Now if they'll just sell a mouse/keyboard I can use to play FPS the way it's supposed to be, I might just grab myself a 360.
Although a JRPG on the system and Dead Rising is almost enough to tip me as it is...
