No one denies how hot of a seller the DS is these days... But Joystiq brings news that the new Japanese Top 10 list of video games sold last week (yes, across all systems) is out. And the DS has claimed all 10 of 10 available spots, a clean sweep of the Top 10.

That's fucking amazing. The DS is doing much better than I would have thought it would back in 2004. I've got one but my brother lost it, the fuck. Guess I'll have to get a Lite.
Yeah, but I'd argue you'd have to be a "gamer" to purchase a DS. I doubt many people go out looking for a cookbook and come back with a Nintendo DS and a copy of Cooking Navi.
So apparently a cookbook for the DS is selling better than every game for every other console in Japan...thats just wierd.
It's just evidence that Nintendo has found a way to actually make interactive software mainstream. Very promising news for the future of the Wii. I am fascinated by their new approach and what it will bring. I know not all of it will be my cup of tea, but its also likely to bring a lot of new stuff to the table that doesn't involve slaying ogres or shooting aliens with plasma rifles.
Holy crap. That's like... wow. Can anyone think of any time in recent memory where a top 10 seller list has looked like that? Is this a first?
I feel almost 100% certain that the PS2 probably pulled the same trick at least once, but I can't point to any specific examples. I may also be wrong too, as I recall the GameCube did a lot better over there than elsewhere in the world.
The DS is still a gimmick. Every game I see uses the second screen as a map that nobody looks at.
They should just make Game Boy 2 with a widescreen LCD.
Actually, there's a part of me that laughs when I see news of the DS because I remember when Nintendo said that the DS was never supposed to be their next handheld, and that a true next gen Gameboy would be coming soon.
