Bing Gaining Ground on Google

According to this report on Mashable, Bing is closing in on Google with 30% of U.S. web searches.

Quote:
Microsoft’s search engine Bing now accounts for 30% of U.S. web searches, according to a Experian Hitwise report.

Bing-powered queries — made up of searches from Bing.com and Bing-powered searches on Yahoo and the websites of other notable partners — accounted for 30.01% of searches in April, according to the Hitwise report.

Bing-powered searches rose 5% and Bing.com searches rose 6% month-over-month, respectively. The number of Google searches dropped 3% from the month previous and 11% from the same period in 2011, accounting for 64.42% of U.S. searches in April. Bing-powered search, on the other hand, gained 11% in year-over-year percentages.
Are people getting tired of Google's relentless invasion of privacy? What do you think?

Maybe something to do with programs installing Bing toolbars and Bing being the default IE search engine?

I use bing because you earn points by doing searches and you could use those points to redeem gift cards, such as Amazon gift cards. Plus it not that bad of a search engine, so I don't feel bad using it.

My privacy doesn't feel particularly invaded by Google. I find such claims to be more hype than legitimate concerns.

My biggest problem with Google now is their decision to get rid of an exact string search, which is a very basic functionality. Also, if I search for three keywords, there is no way to specify every result must include all three keywords. It doesn't matter if you put +keyword or "keyword", not every result will include every keyword. As much as it's been dumbed down now, there is definite room for a competitor to enter the market.

Google's gone a bit evil. It used to have a tab to search for videos. Now that tab says "YouTube," a company Google purchased recently. There is certainly room for competition.

OTOH, Microsoft wouldn't stand a ghost of a chance if they didn't have the ability to install Bing as the default search for about a zillion Internet Explorer users. I'm not sure why I should switch; Microsoft is just as big and ugly as Google.

The only good thing bing has is that birds eye view on their maps. Other than that it's crap.

Bing: the preferred search engine of Hawaii Five-0. If it's good enough for MacGarrett, it's good enough for you!

I hate bing.

It rarely gives me the relevent items when I do a search. With google I always get what I'm looking for in the top 3 or 4 searches. This rarely happens with bing and I always have to pour over the results much more carefully to ensure it's the information I want.

Maybe the way I search is too old-school and BING is meant for retards.

Really? I have never had a search engine give me trouble looking for what I was looking for. I would like an example of this.

Well to be fair I've been offered to install google toolbar way more than bings. Also chrome and firefox and I think sarfari all default to google. I personally have used google for at least 10 years but have switched to bing recently and i've been very very happy with it.

I never get involved in crap like this. You're being gamed, you just don't know how.

You can still make it work with a couple clicks on the left column, hit 'more search tools' then hit 'verbatim' and that's it.

That may work for verbatim, dunno.

In any case, my prob with google was results being poisoned by search tracking, where they would try to add more relevant things according to what you'd looked for before or w/e. Turned off history tracking and now I don't have that prob anymore.
