That's pretty insane. Didn't see it yet. Going to take the boys to see it in iMax Saturday. Yesterday me and the fam went at two and it was sold out. We live in a podunk town, and this was on a SUNDAY. Good for them though. Love me some Whedon. Now make Serenity 2!

Sounds like The Avengers is good on top of being a huge money maker. Plan on seeing it next weekend myself.

Your numbers on Avengers may be low. Deadline.com is reporting that rival studios are telling them Avengers made closer to 207 million this weekend, not 200 million. Official numbers for it won't be released until this afternoon.

There are 21 movies that have made $100+ million during their opening weekend. You can find it at Box Office Mojo.

UPDATE: Deadline.com is now saying that Disney has officially announced that the Sunday take for Avengers was $56.8 million, bringing it a weekend total of $207.1 million.

Avengers was simply amazing, I saw it with my gf who is not a comic book fan and she was still glued to the screen. Will probably go catch another viewing in a few days.

Great flick. Joss Whedon just knocked it out the park. That movie kicked so much ass.

Congrats to Whedon and co.

Crazy numbers! I highly doubt the Dark Knight Rises will touch that number without being in 3D. Going Wednesday night, can't wait!

Where is that fake poster from? It's cool seeing Wasp and Ant-man ... along with Hawkeye in his proper attire.

I really enjoyed Avengers and am glad it's raking in the dough. I'm already looking forward to the "special features" of the DVD release.

As the rest of the world wakes up to capitalism (and english), move releases will get bigger and bigger. We'll see a $500m opening in our lifetime. Maybe even a billion by the time we're retirement age.

Going tomorrow with some friends to see it in IMAX 3D. Excited for this, though did have one end-scene sort of ruined for me. But, I can't say from watching the other films, that I wasn't expecting it.

Going Sunday. Is the 3D IMAX worth it for this one?

Also, not sure revenue is that good a judge of a movie's success anymore, since ticket prices have gone SKY HIGH lately, especially for IMAX and 3D. Would be interesting to know headcount instead.

Good proof of this is that Paranormal Activity 3's opening weekend beat Men In Black II's. Really? There is no way in hell more people saw PA3 vs MIBII on its opening weekend.

Their great plan has really paid off. Each single movie serving as a semi-advertisement for the main one, and now the main one is a big advertisement for each character thanks to Whedon's balance.

This will help Disney sleep a little better after John Carter, right?
