Am I correctly interpreting this as a pay-to-win game? Why not just make a simple fun turn-based Battletech that we can buy and play like real human beings?

Starting to look that way, which really irks me. Since Mechwarrior Online keeps turning me off with every new information update they put out this was kind of my consolation prize, but now we're getting this pay-to-win noise over here too. *sigh* I just want to get these game and play with friends, with the goodies available, etc. I'm not fucking interested in grinding levels to unlock shit, or paying piecemeal to get the good shit.
Guess I'll just stick with MegaMek. It's nowhere near as pretty, but it's absolutely faithful to the tabletop game, absolutely free, and absolutely lets me play the fucking thing the way I want to play it with no goddamn strings attached.

After reading this little thing on PA Report, I feel more optimistic about the game not being pay-to-win. Of course it will come down to how they balance point values, but it seems doable.

There is project I'd throw some kickstarter money at. Maybe, with enough money, they could acquire the license, hire some artists, and a few more coders.
