errrrrr... non traditional drop pods? I mean seriously when that Atlas hits the ground it will ruin itself. Too much tease, not enough meat or cannon for me.

1. What is that song ?

2. The Atlas does not have a cockpit with windows. It has a Death's Head cockpit/head assembly.... sigh

Why, oh god why, is this not single player leaning towards Mercenaries? Such a waste

Coldeath: The Atlas has windows, although smaller then shown in the video. Every single mech has a windowed cockpit afaik.

*drools* That could be fun, though I wonder how it will attract new players since HAWKEN has gotten a lot of attention, especially as an indie game. Maybe the re-release of Mechwarrior 2 will help?

They couldn't get the bank they needed for a retail release. Which sucks crazy balls, because now there's like a gajillion mecha games getting ready to hit and competition is going to be insane.

Well it had the rocket pack to control the descent (you can see some jets firing right before it flys out of view). Since it was an atmospheric drop rather than an orbital drop, no drop pod/cocoon. *shrug*

Air drops (and orbital drops, for that matter) have been a part of the Battletech rules since the 80s. Fiction wise, you normally use drop ships for the better armor and weapons, but when a dropship lands, everyone knows. Air drops (you either need mechs with Jump Jets or backpack boosters) allow you in insert a squad into an area without everyone converging to kill you.

I would not have had an issue if they were dropping a lighter mech with proper jets, but an Atlas is 100 tons with ZERO jump jets. That trailer was an abortion of canon.

hahaha, I love you nerds.

What I don't love is videos without any actual game play. Im a huge fan of awesome cinematics but this is the first ive heard of this game and watching a mech drop out of a ship is not at all indicative of what the game will look and behave like.

Game could be fun.

Stop counting on canon anymore. CANON, NOT CANNON. People play with this stuff as it suits their fancy now. They aren't going to reverse the trend of the last 5 years of tweaking things to the way they see fit.

It's been a LONG time since I played the tabletop game or ready any readouts or novels, but I was balls-deep in Battletech up to around 2000 (and by balls-deep, I'm talking there wasn't a single Battletech/Mechwarrior product that didn't have a spot on my shelves, a fact to which Evil Avatar himself can attest), and there were several references to non-jumpjet fitted mechs like the Atlas being equipped with disposable rockets for drops like in the cinematic. Granted, I always envisioned them as being way bulkier than the relatively slim model we see here, but yeah... one-shot braking-rockets were an established piece of canon as far back as the 80's.

Im the same (Played online Battletech for a long time, was Captain-General for Marik for awhile). And yes, detachable jumpjets for combat drops were a normal part of canon, although relatively rarely used since they malfunction often (and messily) and they're much less effective then built in jets, so theres always a serious risk of damage.

I have no interest in this but I hope it does well and we will get a great singleplayer game down the line because of that.

Ditch the FTP, expand the game to include out of mech world simulation (But no fighting, we're not free births who lack honor!) and make it skill-based and not RPG-based.
