Dunno if i'd call that a gameplay trailer, more like Teaser... But looking good. Man it would be nice to have a decent FPS with a story. (insert wistful look here)
This game looks like it could be as freaky as Dead Space, but better. Hope it pans out and isn't a let down. I have yet to play an Aliens game that didn't let me down.
Yes, this is just a really old trailer. It was released around August of last year, so, no, they are not just releasing the same footage again. This game is going to be awesome! Which is why they pushed it back to make sure of it.
No offense to Randy Pitchford, but he should never narrate one of those again :P
That aside it's just very ... antiquated? The acid for blood and the aliens exploding when they get hit by the "10mm explosive-tipped caseless light armor piercing rounds" are both practically non-existent. The first time I saw this I thought, "That looks ... boring." But I couldn't figure out why.
This is from over a decade ago, but despite the graphics difference, the aliens deaths are more dynamic than anything seen in that video. Aliens exploding, heads exploding, upper torso exploding, the aliens continue spasming on the ground (giving you the illusion that maybe they're still alive and also giving them an extremely insectoid and alien feel) and most importantly - blood fountaining out of them and continuing to remain on the ground, if only for a few seconds. Also, despite the models and lighting being way better in the new one, the blood ... isn't. Does Gearbox really think monsters flopping to the ground with a green splash on a billboard will work for a AAA Aliens game in 2013?
And I'm a nerd, yeah, but you don't have to be to recognize that exploding ammo and "concentrated acid for blood" should be present in the game - I mean they were both actual plot points in the movie.
They've delayed it enough though that I think they've got more than enough time to put in these things. Hopefully they do, otherwise ... yeah I love Aliens, and I loved AvP Gold from back in the day, ESPECIALLY the Marine part. It was super tense, super atmospheric ... But what I saw in that video was neither of those things. It was just running around and shooting at things with green paintballs from the looks of it.
Well, gotta say, despite the deficiencies being decried here, this preview has me sold, looks damn awesome I trust Gearbox, and I think it looks great.
I hate how all the aliens movies try to set up the same way, ie all the humans are in the dark about what they are facing. So for the humans its terrifying. But for the viewer he has seen it all before. A xenomorph at this point isn't any scarier than an angry grizzly bear. Meaning yeah you don't want an angry grizzly attacking you, but there certainly isn't any fear of the unknown.

It's a good point. I agree the story would probably be better if they went in knowing what they were doing. But that would change the story radically, because they could just nuke it from orbit. So what would the story be, rescuing living hostages. Maybe space president's daughter is in there somewhere? That's worse. Unfortunately it seems they're reprising the plot of Aliens, we're in and we have to get out. Which makes it a rehashed plot not a plot-sequel.
But it looks like the closest we'll get to playing Aliens.
