So here we are, a couple of days out from Square Enix’s recent Tokyo Games Show press event and we’re still scratching our heads about an announcement it made. Cutting to the chase, it seems as though the publisher has confirmed that Chrono Trigger will be indeed be making its way to Android and iOS, just as it seemed to suggest it would via a teaser page from forever ago.
I've bought this game three times. Ain't happening again, not when I already have the ROM on my phone Makes me feel guilty, but then I don't really appreciate being milked. They need to just make a new game.

Yea, I kind of agree with this. I have already given them money for this game multiple times, and I refuse to accept that they are so incompetent now that they cant produce a new high quality game. Its just not their priority.
The fail has been strong with Square the last 10 years, so why not cash in on some old games? I just wonder what version this will be though. Hopefully it will be the PSX version with the cut-scenes. Heck, maybe they'll add even more content?

This is proof of exactly where mobile gaming is headed: To smartphones. You think they're putting this up there to attract casual gamers who've never heard of a game that's sixteen years old, to play an RPG that takes many hours to complete? Yeah...I don't think so. Hardcore gamers are moving to the new mobile platform, in addition to hundreds of millions of casual-game customers.
The future is here. Nintendo's and Sony's dedicated mobile devices are doomed to niche status and death by a thousand cuts.

Nope, still casual. This is what hardcore gamers look in a portable gaming console.

Chrono Trigger is not a casual game and does not appeal to casual tastes.
You are more than welcome to your opinion of what a "hardcore" game should look like, but you're hopelessly blinded by myopia if you think that because you enjoy such games that the devices used to play them (dedicated gaming handhelds) will continue to generate the sales (hardware and software) to sustain their own ecosystem. It's a dying niche. Even hardcore gamers don't want a portable console; they've been saying that for years (see the PSP-line's middling sales rate for proof).

She's dead, Jim. You'll have to adapt. Too bad.
As long as people look for console-like games with console-like dedicated controls in a portable form factor, as opposed to swiping your finger on a touch screen in a casual game, there will always be a market for dedicated portable consoles.
A touch screen cannot substitute analogue controls.
A smartphone game can only hope to achieve the 3D graphic details of PS Vita.
A Java game (managed code) will always be inferior (graphics and perfomance - wise) to a C/C++ native game.

This. This is why the 3ds saw a huge price drop. Apple is going to kill portable gaming platforms the way they killed the netbook and will soon kill the desktop. PC's are going back to being work platforms. Tablets and smartphones will be how we read news and browse the web.

You're forgetting something that a lot of us do with PCs. You know, that thing this site is dedicated to?
And I think tablets are a bit of a fad. Not that I think they're going anywhere, but typing on a tablet sucks balls and will likely continue to for the foreseeable future.
Desktops are already pretty much only for enthusiasts, every casual user I know switched to laptops years ago. I, for one, will never switching from PC to Apple. My high end, self built PC would likely have cost over $5,000 to buy from Apple. That's no way to convert informed consumers.

Ok, seriously EA? We need fucking edit buttons. You can put them on a 30 second timer or something, whatever, but this is getting stupid.
I'm tired of my minor editing mistakes which I catch the moment after I post mocking me.
I feel like I've been waiting forever for this game to pop up on iOS. I had it for DS, but just recently sold my DS and games. I really enjoyed playing it, but I wasn't holding onto a handheld for one game. They've got my money for this. These older games are perfect for iphones and ipads, which I happen to have both.
Like some have said, I think smartphones and tablets have killed the handheld. Why am I going to pay around $200 for something that ONLY does ONE thing?
