The Space Marine demo features two very different areas of the game. The first pits the player against an Ork horde outside the gates of a munitions factory. Armed with six devastating weapons, including the iconic bolter and lethal chainsword, the player will get to experience Space Marine’s seamless mix of melee and ranged combat first hand as they take on the rampaging invaders. The second area gives players a taste of the exhilarating Jump Pack sequences where the game’s hero—Captain Titus—takes to the skies to rain death from above.
The demo is planned to launch simultaneously for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC on 23rd August and then on PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system on 24th August.
Oh thank goodness. My first reaction was to get the console version, but I can't aim for crap with a controller. But thanks to the demos, I can decide which version I'll enjoy more. Huzzah!
This makes me really happy. I've been becoming increasingly interested in this game, but I was really hoping for a demo to help me really decide whether or not to get it.
Plus, and obviously this doesn't always apply, but theoretically a pre-release demo is a good sign that the developers/publisher has confidence in the quality of the title.

After not understanding anything about the Warhammer craze, all of a sudden I am ordering and playing every single Warhammer video game. I still don't get it, but at least it's fun.

And that is why you fail.

You were the one who said you didn't get it. It's Warhammer 40,000. Let the holy light of the immortal Emperor into your soul, Heretic, or you will be cleansed.

So, I picked up the Steam demo few days ago, just put an hour into the game (and got killed :O), and it has just jumped to the top of my wanted list This game freakin' rocks.
It auto-detected by 360 pad when I started it and set that up as default, and for once I figured, hey, why not. Turned out to be the right choice.
Controls are tight, makes you feel powerful, without having too many functions. The combat's fun and the way you gain health is by killing orcs, so the more of a badass you are the better off you do :P
I didn't remember how to enable rage mode or w/e until I died, so, next time
Yeah I pre-ordered it last week, and after playing the demo I'm glad I did. One of my family members and a friend are also going to buy it after playing the demo.

I am so buying this.
If you're going to thumb your nose at consoles and Achievements, you should not be playing with a 360 pad either. There's no in between. Either you're in the PC camp or you're not. Don't be ostracized by both parties.

That's funny, because I had it pre-ordered, but after playing the demo, I'm sort of wondering why I did. There's no decent leveling or inventory system I can see, and the graphics are just average.

I don't know what you're talking about. Choosing mouse&KB vs a nice 360 controller is part of the prerogative of being a PC gamer
I would never use the controller for a shooter, now that would be heresy.
But for an action game like this, hell yeah. I originally picked it up for Super Meat Boy, which should -only- be played with an analog controller.

It's a third person action game, why would there be leveling and an inventory? But yeah the graphics aren't the greatest.

Dunno what you guys're talking about. I thought the graphics were fantastic. The draw distance alone was enormous. You're in this gigantic freaking city, you can see for miles easily. No jaggies to be seen. Flowing flags and cloth on characters, etc. I thought it was clean and well presented. What was there to dislike? It definitely was above par. I never saw a single graphic element that I didn't think acceptable.
