In an effort to return to the dream realm from where he came,
Freddy must face-off against the game's legendary warriors
and prove that, even as a mortal, he and his demonically powered
razor gloves can take down the toughest competition.
I came in to post this exact thing. This would be so much better if it was the Robert Englund version and not the terrible new version.

Doesn't really bother me that it's the Haley Freddy and not Englund. It would've been awesome to see Englund in there, but during gameplay it won't really make much difference.
I don't think we'll see much more of Englund as Freddy anymore, but who knows?

PSB: Did you base Freddy off the 80s films or the reboot movie from a few years back?
Well…that’s a good question. We didn’t try to make him look like the actor Robert Englund, I don’t even know if we would be allowed to….Admittedly, I didn’t see the latest movie, the remake. But obviously the first few movies were huge — they left an undeniable mark on pop culture. When I look at him, I think of the original Freddy: he’s got the striped sweater and is instantly recognizable. He’s Freddy in general, we don’t really identify him as one version or another.
That sounds like a lawyerly answer, trying to avoid possible infringement claims. Either that, or they just can't answer a simple question with a straight answer.

Gotta say, I like Freddy as an addition. Didn't see this coming in the slightest, and it's a nice surprise. Hopefully, they'll do more character adds like this in the future, pulling not only from games, but also from other movies, books, heck, even real-life characters a'la the Def Jam games.
looks good except for at the end "Freddies Passion of torturing the youth of elm street" that just seems like some low ambition for freddie.
Not to mention property values have really plumeted on Elm Street. Now he tries to torture black and mexican gangster kids that bring guns and switchblades into their dreams >_> Just not fun anymore.
He tried to pull out that trick where all his fingerblades turned into needles full of drugs and got mobbed by sleeping crackheads begging for a dose :P
I was at the Comic Con panel when they announced this (I was waiting for the Archer panel), the crowd's reaction was definitely that of...well...surprise.
At first, there were major laughs and cheers thinking it was a joke, then a complete...wtf...but not in a bad way. Either way, it had people talking about it as they left the Hilton.
I dunno if I'm being too serious, but to me this whole Freddy thing is stupid; to me it just takes away some of MK's credibility as it just feels like a silly, tacked-on gimmick.
I just can't take it seriously.
