Blizzard announces the upcoming Diablo III Beta in the August issue of Blizzard Insider, though no date is given.

Countless hours of consulting the ancient prophecies and poring over dusty tomes have resulted in the unearthing of new information about Diablo III. The upcoming Diablo III beta test will introduce a treasure trove of exciting new features, including a new Auction House that will provide a powerful new way for your characters to acquire the implements of war. Prepare yourselves!
I hate these Beta announcements without any dates attached to them. It's obvious the game will go through a beta phase. These "Planning to Plan" news scraps just end up looking like stingy publicity stunts.
WTF good does this do without a date? I'm a lot less sympathetic to "Blizzard time" since they merged with Activison and started treating their customers like shit.
Oh yea, and where the fuck is the rest of Startcraft 2?
This confirms Blizzard works with Goldfarmers. The only value from this announcement without a date is so phishing scammers can start sending you emails from donotreply@.blizzard.com claiming you've been selected to participate in the beta as long as they follow the tainted link to a fake signup page.

All Blizzard is saying is that Diablo 3 will release by 2013 or during. Well definitely before 2014.
In all seriousness, there is a small hope of Christmas 2011 release if beta starts by September. A very small hope... It's more likely an early 2012 game.

That's precisely what I've been thinking about this 'announcement'. I'm really starting to get fed up with Blizzard's policy on this. It's like they know their games are in high demand and they just feed this bullshit to the public to try and keep their momentum.
Im thinking suddenly I could care less. Which is a bit strange, considering Ive been stoked for this for over a year, and absolutely loved Diablo 2. Perhaps its the "must constantly be connected to the web" thing.
