Marky Mark to Play Nathan Drake; No Word on the Funky Bunch
Much to Nathan Fillion's chagrin, it looks like Mark Wahlberg will be playing Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie adaptation. Apparently, the screenwriter is also looking to bring Joe Pesci and Robert Deniro in as an uncle and father to Drake, respectively.
Quote:
On the subject of how the "Uncharted" movie is progressing, Wahlberg confirmed that David O. Russell has started writing. "David is one of the best writer/directors I've ever worked with," said Wahlberg. "The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we'll be making that movie this summer."
Recently there have been rumors that O. Russell was interested in casting Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro in the film, and Wahlberg confirmed those, as well. "That's who he wants to write the parts for. I talked to Pesci about it and I know David's people have talked to [Robert De Niro]."
Wait, which game had Drake's father or uncle in it? Oh, that's right... neither.
Dammit. David O. Russel (though he's bat shit crazy) makes great movies, and is a good writer. Mark Wahlberg, good when used in the right roles, but this just doesn't seem like a good fit.
Nathan Fillion just seemed right for this, and not because of his credibility with fan boys, but because this role was made for him (it's his character stripped
from Firefly/Serenity and placed in Indian Jones world).
I just feel this is your basic Hollywood move... need a name to sell a videogame blockbuster... didn't work too well for Prince of Persia though.
A younger Bruce Willis could have done it too. His John McClane from Die Hard is pretty similar to Drake. Not as charming, but the wit is there at least. Marky Mark is just... deadpan.
Yeah thats a bad choice. Fallion would have been perfect.
And Im suprised David O. Russel is doing this movie. He has some serious story telling talent. As something of note- he has managed to channel good Mark Wahlberg before. Hopefully he can do it again.
Nathan Fillion would be a better casting. Mark Wahlberg reminds me of Max Payne. . . this may be license exploitation again.
Maybe? Definitely. They just wanted the name.
It must have taken considerably more effort to get Wahlberg than Fillion. And unless this movie gets stellar reviews, I'll be skipping it. No need to see something that was built against the fanbase; going against the grain.
All these booing now, and watch, you guys will fall in line and realize mark is a great pick. Mark is one of those rare actors, you know the ones I am talking about, the kind that can actually act...
He will take the time out, research the part, make it happen and not let you down. Have faith in Mark, Mark always delivers.

Did he deliver in The Happening? One of the few films I've seen of his recently, and it made me wish his new kid brother was the one who broke out into films (his dick in saw was infinitely better than marky in Happening).
I don't think that he's up to the task to capture Nate...
Nathan Fillian would have been perfect, although I believe pretty much anyone else than Marky would have been a better fit.
Nathan Fillion would have been perfect. I would have even settled for Sam Rockwell or Luke Wilson... but Wahlberg? Really? They actually all sat in a room and thought to themselves "you know who everyone likes and has a fantastic history of great, top-grossing films? Marky Mark!" Really!?!?
The script must be terrible, or Wahlberg is very cheap.
