We recieved official word today from the GameStop tactical planning group that GameStop and EB Games locations will not be taking preorders until Early October for the Playstation 3. Obviously, I can't post links as it is all internal at this point, but other employees could back me up if they've seen this.
It seems that they are going all out against a repeat of the 360 preorder issue, which of course GameStop and EB was blamed for... even though Microsoft had promised ten times what each store actually launched with. This seems to be the most fail-safe way, but I wonder how long any kind of "call list" might be by October. There are at least fifty people on our store's alone in May.
I feel bad for game store employees when they get blamed for shortages beyond their control. I don't like the game store companies when they take the shortages and turn them into giant bundle goldmines, but that's capitalism for you.
Since you seem to be in the know, any word on when EB will be taking pWiiorders? Also, has Nintendo made any mention about how many Wii units will be available at launch? We all know about the PS3 numbers, what about Nintendo's?

I'm fairly certain they haven't said anything specific, but have alluded to shortages being a non issue. Really, considering what's in the Wii, (that it's not entirely cutting edge power and that it's based of the Gamecube guts,) they shouldn't have any trouble making enough.
And it's pWiiorders, not Wiiorders. Where have you been?
lol nice one, Spigot. I'm going to steal that and post it in my store once we do start taking pWiiorders.
Unless he is at an EB I'm suprised this guy had news on PS3 reservations. I left work at 6pm Eastern yesterday and still had no word.
I'll call work shortly (I close today) and see if there are any emails on the subject to help confirm this info.

I can't beleive anyone is still interested in the PS3 after E3.
Listen, everyone buy the cheaper 360 instead of the PS3 and all the PS3 exclusives will have to be ported over...and then we can get the Blu-Ray add on later. Then in 5 years, when Sony learns their lesson, everyone buy the PS4 and skip the Xbox 720 just to keep the companies on their toes...Sony Holocube Ultra High Def for everybody!!!
What? EBGS has learned a lesson with the 360? They are not going to repeat the same mistakes? That is so reasonable!!! So... strange?!
Damn, I'll need someone to bring my Wii to brazil on his/her baggage.
If it matters to those desiring to reserve the new Sony Betamax I did confirm GS/EB won't be taking reservations until early October.

I am not as big a GS fan I as I was a few months ago but I will say that we have never bundled and I would be suprised if we did this time around. Then again, the merger with EB has caused some of their bad habits to leak over to our side only now they are called "best practices". So who knows. Bundles may be it however sometimes that's the price you pay to be an early adoptor especially for this new Betamax.

I tried pre-ordering both the PS3 and Wii today at GameStop and was unsuccessful with both. I expect we'll have to wait for an official price for the Wii and with the PS3, I was told that they wouldn't take pre-oders 'til "the end of the summer".

And think... if you had read my original post you wouldn't be down all that gas money. Unless you walked. In that case, not paying attention has worked out to your body's benefit. You are welcome.

I didn't check before I left and I wasn't there to pre-order. I picked up the original Guild Wars, since I already had Factions, took a look at the new X-Men game briefly before deciding to wait on reactions, bought New Super Mario Bros. at the next door Best Buy (since GameStop didn't have it in, yet), and talked to the manager, Chris, for a while. Chris is my buddy.
And I skateboarded all the way there. Took a good 45 minutes. Stupid Target didn't have New Bros. and I had to have it. Coming back was quick, though, as I wisely invested in a one way ticket on the Metro Gold Line back to Lake Ave., just blocks from my hoos/apt.

Best Buy is an amazing example of a company looking at its customers as statistics.
Google the company and check out the awesome new way they are categorizing their customers to attempt to loose poeple they don;t want in their stores. It's so totally focused on service!

That goes both ways reservation/Game Informer boy. BTW, expect bundles. Not just because EB did it before, but because I have heard rumors it is going to happen.
