A post to the LucasArts Forums from Petroglyph Designer Darth Torpid has word that a Map Editor is currently in QA testing (along with a game patch) for their RTS, Star Wars: Empire at War, and gives some hints that an expansion pack is in the works.

Sorry I've not stopped in for a while, but E3 has us hopping, not to mention working on the project we will be showing there.
The map editor is in QA now. We will likely release an update/balance patch very soon, followed closely after by the editor. There's still some documentation to write up to support the editor while it is in QA, and I've been working on a doc to explain the XML story scripting system (it's a bit strange, and I'm the only one that seems to understand it fully ) I've been told it should be out before E3, but as always I will refrain from giving an exact date because it's out of my hands.
I will also offer this bit to chew on...some of you want us to go forward in time for an expansion, some of you want to go backwards. What if we went sideways? That is, of course, assuming that we actually were working on an expansion.

I didn't really care for EaW. It was ok, but I think it was really missing the large scale star wars battles seen in the movies. I mean, the most you could ever get in a space battle was 4 star destroyers and 2 victory class star destroyer. On that note, the space maps also seemed a bit small, you'd run into the enemy within two minutes of start. Land battles were ok, nothing to write home about. Galatic Conquest was intresting, but the tatical battles never did much for me. Not to say it was bad, but it simply wasn't my type of game.
Unless this exspansion brings about some general gameplay changes, I don't think I'm going to be to intrested. Most this is going to do is appease some of the whinny Star Wars fanboys crying about some obscure vehicle or planet that wasn't in the original game. Though I doubt we'll see the super star destroyer, so even this won't make everyone happy in that respect.
You know as sad as it sound I actually had more fun playing Force Commander than EaW. Maybe because I expected less from games back then ,or maybe because I was working so damn hard when it was released (New Job and New Dad) I was happy to be doing anything except writing Tables and changing diapers.
