Criticism of Starcraft II Arising Over "Incomplete Game"
Reports are beginning to surface that there is a surprising amount of negative user feedback over Starcraft II.
Quote:
The biggest problem that users can’t seem to get over, is the fact that they consider Starcraft II to be an ‘incomplete game’. A lot of user reviews have scored the game just one star out of five, stating that they shouldn’t have to pay $60 for 1/3 of the full game.
I'm not looking at SC2 as paying full price for 1/2 of a game, I'm actually looking at all three games being full releases. Then again I haven't finished the campaign mode yet so we will see how it goes.

WII: I have one but never bothered to play anything online.
So the crack heads who blew through the content are all ready starting to twich eh? Keep tapping that vein, more ST2 will be raping your wallet soon enough.

And you know what I say to those people that are unhappy with the game? Tough. Get over it. You're not getting your $60 back. Once you register the game, it's locked to you forever, and Blizzard/Activision locks in your money.
Steam and Battle.net are a cancer slowly creeping up on PC gaming.
I will not be buying SCII or any game where the system locks you to that copy forever. Besides, once you buy SCII:WOL you're sorta commiting yourself to buying the other two campaigns to complete the game. That will set you back $180.
I think this sort of criticism is from a very vocal minority who are blind to some obvious holes in their complaints:
Starcraft 1 had 30 missions
Starcraft 2 has 30 missions
Starcraft 1 simply used units from the multiplayer
Starcraft 2 uses large number of new units, new upgrades, and new research options to give the Terran army a lot of diversity and customization.
Starcraft 1 had four CGI cutscenes (including the intro) to tell the story.
Starcraft 2 has a re-donkulous amount of cutscenes that look amazing using the in-game engine, as well as some CGI stuff.
Starcraft 2 also has some really interesting mission mechanics that really vary up what occurs and how you play.
In addition, because each step in both research trees is exclusive to the other - it's possible to play the entire campaign twice with very different unit/army upgrades that change the game up.
Oh, also - the achievements? Hundreds of small mission goals at different difficulties. ("Red Lobster" is a personal favorite - use the rising lava to cook the giant zerg monster. =)
aaaand, there's all the single-player "challenge" content that sets up various combat situations and let you solve the problems.
Plus the incredible game editor? Even within the single-player campaign there's a very respectable shmup...
Seriously - these sorts of comments are tired and worn out. This game is going to get a magnificent handjob from every single proffesional game reviewer (and deservedly so.) It's just a fantastic game.
So far from what I've played, SC2 seems to have a metric ass load of content. I've played 5 story missions, did the tutorials (just for fun while I was eating), and took some time to actually look through all the play options.
I've also played it on two very different machine: 2 year old desktop, and 4 year old laptop. Both play flawlessly as far as game speed and smoothness but the experience on the laptop was lackluster graphically to say the least but it was to be expected. Still, there are not many newer games that I can get running on the laptop that don't choke it down to a non-playable rate (eg: Fallout 3, Dragon Age).
So far I am very pleased. I love all the little click events you can do in between missions and how the narrative is not forced on you unless you want it.
Although I won't be buying SC2 myself, I did not really understand the validity of this complaint.
It does seem to have a TON of campaign content. It is just based around the Terrans...
Multiplayer still allows access to all the factions and, at least for me, that is where the meat and potatoes were after the campaign was finished back in SC1.
Kind of moot anyway, I'd rather be playing as Chaos marines than Terrans anyway.

Sounds like people who didn't buy the game are on a mission to bring down the scores as they've done with other stuff in the past. A lot of the positive reviews are from people verified to have purchased the game. I bet you won't find many of those in the 1/5 reviews.

unless the singleplayer portion only lasts me the pathetic 10 hours that is now the norm (a capitulance of the industry to all the ADD ridden kids these days) i'll be more than happy, even if i'll hate waiting for the other 2 games.

I lower my standards for all PC Games. I'm just happy it didn't sign me up for Direct TV when I installed the game.
I was all for supporting this article until I actually read the "reviews" on amazon. The crying over the game not being structured just like they want is totally lame to me.
I'd happily pay 3 times the cost for 3 times the content if its as good as SC2 and thats coming from a guy who was so dominated in MP that I have never really played an RTS online.
Dear ungrateful trolls, Dawn of War 2 = less buyers remorse. Sincerely, Kragg
Heh, maybe I should go back and play on from the second mission one of these days! Installed it, played a mission and haven't gone back since. Love DoW2 tho.
You don't have to be online to play single player. You must register the game online first though, after that you can go offline and campaign to your heats delight.

This. I have a feeling that many people saying StarCraft 2 is "incomplete" is ignorant over every one of the points you mentioned here.
I don't care about the amount of content, what I care about is the out-dated gameplay mechanics. StarCraft will never be a true RTS, because it's missing the STRATEGY.
