Microsoft sends word that PD0 will be getting a new auto update soon with a bunch of new features as well as getting a demo that will be both single player, co-op and multi-player coop. They have also announced the first premium content available for the game in the form of a map pack.
Quote:
Included in the free auto-updates are eight new bot personalities, making these artificially intelligent enemies even more treacherous. Some of the new bots even get personal: judge bots instinctively attack the player with the most kills, while bully bots attack the player with the least. Venge bots are constantly out for blood, targeting the last person that killed them. The infamous DarkOps Bots are being added, as well, and will be available in all multiplayer scenarios.
In addition to the demo and auto-updates, Xbox Live Marketplace will soon feature new premium downloadable content for “Perfect Dark Zero,” including four new multiplayer maps.

I really, really wanted to like PDZero. But I just didn't.

I haven't played this game since release week.. I agree with the bit on controls, never even finished the game. I played some coop which was decent, never tried pvp..
I really loved the multiplayer, but wasd disapointed with the singleplayer. Multiplayer is still fun even today, and I would go so far as to say it's the best that the 360 currently has in that respect. I just didn't feel GRAW had enough action... Too much of the old take-a-step, die, respawn if possible or just wait until the round to end, kind of thing going on there.
Besides... Infection pwns.

PDZ was alright. The thing for me that bugged me was the shitty voice acting, story (trying to connect this to the N64 game is torture), and just odd design choices made me sad. Decent game, but dissapointing.

What, no new "the real one we promise" 2nd disc for the collector's edition?
It's fun to play this title from time to time but it really doesn't beg to be played a lot. This was the first game I purchased for my 360, but I just never got over the fact that it wasn't Halo 2 (totally my problem I know). Every now and then, I'll take it out and work on the achievements a little more. That's about it since all of my friends pretty much traded it in or gave it to another person shortly after getting it. I couldn't even get them to finish the first co-op once through before they stopped out of disgust. I don't think it's THAT bad.
It's good to see Rare / Microsoft not just let it die though.
Out of every PD0 discussion I always hear the same things:
- Controls just feel off no matter how much you play with the options
- It feels sluggish and/or "floaty"
- It's actually pretty fun to play online
- The single player is sub-average and the level design is very 1998
- The animations and character models are so bad at times they are laughable
- The guns and gun modelling are top notch
I agree with all those points, and I hope Rare takes note. Even with all the gripes, if they had a "normal" feeling control scheme, like every other shooter released, it would have made it that much better.
It's hard to figure what causes my loathing of that control scheme. I hear so many supporters of it basically call you a crack-addled crybaby because it's apparently a couple menu tweaks away from perfection, but no matter how hard I tried, the game still felt and controlled like either a "slug in molasses" or a "caffeine hopped up twitchy slug in molasses". And I've played a lot of FPS. A lot. An uncomfortable control scheme is a kiss of death in any FPS.
I don't get the complaints about the controls. I'm not saying that in defense of the game, I'm just not understanding what you are saying. To me, it feels like every other console FPS I've ever played.

I too am disappointed with this game. It was my first game on 360. The controls are what kills it for me. If you play the game on easy, the AI is horrificly stupid, but on "Secret Agent" its more fun. I believe the word "meh" describes it perfectly.
Over the weekend, I just discovered dark ops (specifically "Infection" and I'm hooked). That game mode is hella fun. Multiplayer is pretty fun, but too slow (a run button woudl be nice).
I hope the new map is fun, because there are not enough multiplayer maps, actually not even close to being enough.
It really sucked. The whole game felt 1997, not just the level design. I thought FPS had evolved but I guess not where Rare is concerned.
I totally agree. It felt exactly like Goldeneye did, which alone wouldn't be a completely bad thing but come on, it was made nearly a decade ago. You'd think in the nine years that have passed they would have learned something that would improve the gameplay design.
Frankly, I felt the whole game was uninspired. Not to mention the fact that aside from a distinct minority, most people, myself included, think that the multiplayer is total shit. I'd download the new stuff if it were free but even then I most likely would never use it, so I'm certainly not going to give them more money.

I still like GRAW better, but I'll likely go back and play some more PDZ with this new patch.
Adding the BOTS to Dark Ops is key, as that's all I played and having the BOTS to balance out the teams sounds great to me. The new bots AI sounds like fun as well.
I played PDZ a ton in Multiplayer when it first came out. Thoroughly got my money's worth. Didn't like the single much at all, but the played the multiplayer night after night with a friend online for a couple of months.
Once I got GRAW, I never went back, but as much as I like GRAW, PDZ does have a lot of features, I'd like to see in GRAW.
1. I like being able to see the stats after a match of say 10 games or so to know the number of kills and deaths during that match.
2. I also liked PDZ keeping track of a lot of stats like kills/deaths etc. over time. GRAW doesn't do this in Multiplayer.
3. I also liked jumping into a game and being able to spectate. GRAW dumps you in the lobby only.
4. I liked PDZ keeping track of the team score in a best 3 out of 5 type match.
There were a bunch of other things I liked better about PDZ, but I can't remember them at the moment. I noticed they became apparent after the first few days of GRAW euphoria, but I've forgotten them, since it's been a while since I played PDZ.
I don't get the complaints about the controls. I'm not saying that in defense of the game, I'm just not understanding what you are saying. To me, it feels like every other console FPS I've ever played.
PD0 suffered the same flaw in the controls as the last Unreal Tournament on the Xbox. It made me felt as though I needed a mouse. It was just so hard to move around in the game and aim etc. I tried and tried and tried to like the game but I couldn't. A lot about the game to me just felt wrong.
Halo and Halo 2 was perfect for FPS controls. GRAW is great regarding controls for a FPS (yes I know you can see yourself but it's still a FPS at heart).
Bots in the Dark Ops would be cool. I always thought that was a missed opportunity to only have human players available.
I agree with pretty much all the complaints against this game, although the control scheme was never a problem for me. The single player was an absolute chore to get through. I thought playing a spy game might have let me do, you know, spy things, but every level was just a terrible run and gun with sloppy stealth elements thrown in.
I'll probably not pay for new maps though, I didn't like the multi player that much.
